My name is Amanda. I'm a registered nurse here at Bassin Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery. Today, we're performing laser skin resurfacing on Nicole. She has some mild acne scarring and that will help to improve that by resurfacing the top layer of her skin. It's also going to help stimulate that collagen production to help give here a more youthful skin appearance. The procedure itself takes about an hour and a half. Basically, after you have the procedure done, you have five days where you'll be recovering from it. After that, it can take up to a few months for you to see your final result because of the collagen production. It just takes a while for that to occur.

Usually, we have somebody come back in for a follow-up appointment a week later. We take photos then and you can see quite a bit of a difference at that time, but you still get some improvement over the next couple months as well. Basically, when you have this procedure done, you're stimulating the collagen production by creating heat underneath the skin. By creating that heat, it regenerates the collagen there. By regenerating it, it pulls it tighter back together to give more of a youthful appearance for scarring and for fine lines and wrinkles. If you're considering ablative laser skin resurfacing, this is equivalent to five of the nonablative fractional skin resurfacing procedures that we also have here.
