This is Dr. Kulbersh in Carolina Facial Plastics. Today we're going to be talking about upper lid surgery or upper eyelid blepharoplasty, and the question is, " Is it covered by insurance?" Generally speaking, blepharoplasty is not covered by insurance if it's done for esthetic or cosmetic reasons.

Now there are times when the extra tissue in the upper eyelids gets so loose and so baggy that it actually causes the upper eyelids to come down to where they squint over the eyes. And if that is the case and it prevents you from seeing up high, then, in those instances, they can be covered by insurance. We can tell if the tissue is impeding your ability to see high by a simple test done by an ophthalmologist or an optometrist.

If you come into the office and that is a concern, I will refer you to one of those doctors, and they will see the results of those tests. And they will see if it can be covered by insurance.
