Phaedra: Now for guys who might have man boobs, what can you do after dramatic weight loss?

Dr. Robert: Gynecomastia is a very common problem both for men who have not had weight loss and those who have. A very high percentage of men around puberty develop enlargement of the breast tissue and as the hormones settle down, then it goes away. If you gain a lot of weight, it can actually be enhanced also. What's been very popular lately is to do a laser assisted liposuction which tightens the skin and the fibers tissues combined with excision with of the breast tissue. The beauty of that combination procedure is it can be done in local anesthesia in the office with very very minimal scarring.

Now the massive weight loss patient is a different group of patients because they tend to have a lot more skin looseness. So we usually will start with that combination of treatment, and if there's a lot of excess tissue, then we tend to remove skin either around the areola area or areola and in the Inframammary fold and we try to place those incisions along the border of the pectoralis muscle so that it provides more masculine shape to the chest even though they have scaring on the chest. So proper incision placement is really key in body contouring after weight loss for the male chest.

Phaedra: Wow, I feel so knowledgeable now after all the different surgeries you can have following dramatic weight loss. Thank you so much for your time Dr. Centeno. It was a pleasure to speak with you as always.

Dr. Robert: The pleasure is all mine Phaedra. I really appreciate your questions and your efforts in helping us educate patients who had dramatic weight loss.
