Phaedra Parks: I heard you say PRP. What is PRP and why is that so important when combining it with surgeries following dramatic weight loss?

Dr. Robert Centeno: It's important in all of cosmetic surgery. PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma is a really interesting new adjunctive treatment. Basically what we do is we draw a little bit of blood from you and we use a machine called a centrifuge to spin it down in the office. Because it's your own tissues, there's no risk of infection or other issues. What we do is we separate what are called platelets that are little cells that produce blood clotting but they're very important because they contain a very high concentration of growth factors. When we concentrate those platelets or concentrating growth factors and delivering them to tissues at a very high level. So we are revving up the healing process. So if you're having a laser resurfacing it will dramatically reduce your healing time. If you're having a fat transfer procedure, it will increase the survival of the fat significantly. If you're having facelift procedure, it will speed up the healing process after that by jump starting it. So, what we are doing is we're delivering growth factors that stimulate collagen production, blood vessel production, and that accelerates the normal healing process. That's what Platelet Rich Plasma can do for you.
