Your surgery date is getting closer and closer. Your mind is racing. Your palms are sweating. You’re excited and scared and everything in between. So what do you do? We turned to our RealSelf Community Moderators who have been there and done that for recommendations on how to tame those pre-surgery jitters. And just a note: these are for the weeks leading up to the surgery, not the night before!

#1: Take a hot bath.
Honestly, this advice really applies to all stressful situations. Draw yourself a hot bath, add in some fancy bath salts. A good soak will help you unwind.

#2: Breathe in, breathe out.
Take a moment to clear your mind. A little meditation will help focus on your target.

#3: Put the water on.
Chamomile, green, and peppermint tea never fail to soothe. Taking time for yourself is always key but especially right now!

#4: Try these stress-fighting foods.
Believe it or not, there are foods that actually help fight stress. In the weeks before your surgery, add these to your grocery list: avocados, berries, oranges, and, our personal favorite, dark chocolate.

#5: Spa day!
Treat yourself with a trip to the spa! A great massage can help recharge your batteries.

#6: Go for lunch and a movie.
Sometimes a change in location is all you need to clear your mind. Take yourself out to a nice lunch and a good movie. Staying busy will help you stop focusing on your fears.

#7: The power of music
Nothing can take your mind off these things like your favorite song. Dance party anyone?

#8: Skip the smokes.
A cigarette may sound like exactly what you need to calm your nerves but trust us, you will regret it.

#9: Plan your dream vacation.
What better way to focus on life after surgery than to plan a dream vacation? We’re thinking some place where it’s always bikini season.

#10: Join a community.
Nothing can do more good for the mind and body than a little conversation and support. Join a community where you can share your feelings with people who are going through the same thing. Might we suggest RealSelf?
