48 Year Old Waiting for a Healthier Me - The Woodlands, TX

Back at home!

I did it! You know what it was not bad! I was very scared but the hospital staff at Memorial Hermann was fabulous. Dr. Howard was wonderful and took great care of me.
I had to have a lap band removal during my sleeve procedure and honestly I think all of the discomfort I experienced came from the scar tissue removal and the drainage tube. My stomach did not hurt and I experienced no gas pain. I did walk the evening after the surgery to help with that and it must have helped. I had some nausea from some of my pain meds but meds helped that too! On the second day I started with water and it stayed down so that was good. I walked but I still had a lot of drainage and there was pain from the tube. I went in on Tuesday the 7th and on Thursday the 9th I was able to start on my protein drinks in my little med cups I think they are 30cc. Everything was going well and I don't want to be an alarmist but the last thing that happened before discharge was the removal of the drainage tube and aghh did it hurt! I am at home drinking my protein and water with no problems and no reflux! I am really happy. I would also like to tell all of you I do not like to take pictures but evidently with my meds I told my family to snap away!

Yay! We're sleeve sisters! I had my procedure done in India on July 7th as well. Congratulations on your decision and progress thus far. Please keep us posted on your recovery. Maybe when you start feeling better about your appearance, you can upload a few more pics so we can see the results of your hard work. I'll be plugging away with you as well. Best wishes!
So happy for you! I used to live there and I will be looking for your updates!
That drain is no joke. All of my pain came from the drain. As soon as they took it out, I legitimately felt like turning cartwheels down the hallways...if I knew how to do a cartwheel, that is. The first time my nurse stripped the tube to break up clots I cried, it hurt that bad. The next time, I knew it would hurt so I took my pain medicine and braced myself, and still almost kicked the nurse in the head from the leg jerking reaction to the pain. Removal made me cry again. But once it was gone, all my difficulties walking and breathing were gone, too. Glad you're done and back at home! Don't try and overtax yourself; you're still recovering from a major surgery!
Why did you have to have a drain tube???

Well, I have been going thru the processes that...

Well, I have been going thru the processes that the insurance requires for about 6 months and my surgery date is finally here! It's hard to believe and I am so very nervous but at 5' and 210 lb. it's time for a healthier me. I have most of the ailments that come with obesity my blood pressure is high, I have obstructive sleep apnea and a fatty liver. I hope that I will be able to lose enough weight that I will no longer have these issues. I have been reading everyone's posts to give me inspiration and bolster my nerve and it has helped me. I wanted to post too so that if there is anyone out there that is scared maybe my post can inspire them. The week long liquid diet has not been bad. I have tried a few different protein drinks and they taste pretty good and that is all I have had. Hopefully my liver has shrunk enough for my procedure guess I will find out tomorrow. I will be sure to upload pictures thru out my journey.

When is your surgery date? I am 46 years old, 5'2 @ 230 pounds. My surgery is on July 15th. So far I have not cheated. I have been on the clear liquid diet for 7 days now. Not sure how much I've lost... I think I'll wait until the weekend.
Well, I couldn't wait. ..I weigh 218! Celebrating already
That is a great update! You did great!! I am going through the 6 month wait and plan to practice as I have never done a liquid diet.
