Great 2nd time around

Very pleased with my second visit to Premiere Surgical Arts. Dr. Jung was professional and the surgery was very quick. The nurse was AMAZING this time around, helped me feel very calm by playing music and ensuring my comfort. Her IV skills were great, too. My wound was clean within 3 hours and the post op instructions and care were excellent.

This is an updated review. My initial visit for my wisdom teeth surgery ended up with numerous long lasting bruises on my arms and nausea caused by the nitrous oxide I specifically told the nurse I did not tolerate well. I have been informed that the nurse who did these things is no longer employed here.

Botched Wisdom Tooth Removal

I am sadly disappointed by my failed wisdom tooth removal at Premiere Surgical Arts/Dr. Calvin Jung after being referred by my dentist. Here’s why:

First: Their office staff was off from the moment I called to make my consultation appointment. The receptionist offered the procedure the same day (“have you eaten today? Are you busy today?” Yes I ate breakfast and came to work, so no, I can’t just hop over and have my teeth pulled). I was not ready so I rescheduled for a few weeks later when I could get someone to drive for me. They said they would email me the confirmation and pre surgery instructions. I had to call twice and remind them about the email before I received it, and even when I received it, it came with no instructions. I’m smart so I just googled “how to prepare for wisdom teeth surgery”.

Second: I asked for an estimate and the person who provided it treated me...like trash. It was like she was annoyed that I needed an estimate, and she even fought me back when I said I didn’t need a four-tooth estimate because I don’t have all four wisdom teeth. I’m evolved like that. I’m sure they’re accustomed to patients who don’t care about cost (they seem to specialize in Kardashian butt surgery, after all), but that doesn’t apply to all of us, nor should they expect it.

Third: Dr. was okay during the consultation. I gave him a CD containing panoramic mouth x rays from my dentist. We discussed the procedure and anesthesia. We agreed on IV sedation. He did offer me Botox which was weird. These people are definitely sales oriented.

Fourth: The nurse needs more training. She seems to think tourniquets are a good way to draw blood out of people. This woman tied my arm like she was about to amputate it (while telling me all about how she likes to tie it very tight) and was then super surprised that she was having trouble with the blood draw/IV. Like duh. TEN DAYS LATER I still had BRUISES where she tied the arm and where she drew the blood.

Fifth: The nurse used nitrous when it was not discussed. In fact, I explicitly told the doctor I had never had it before. She thought it would make me chill out. It made me dizzy and nauseous instead.

Sixth: Dr. Jung blames it all on my nerves. The nurse brings him in and he cancels the procedure because he doesn’t feel comfortable doing it. I get that he was being “responsible” but his language and demeanor (and the anxiety drug he prescribed me) suggested he thought my nerves were to blame. I asked if nitrous could make someone nauseous and he said no. I’m no doctor, but a quick google search will bring up half a dozen studies where nitrous has caused nausea, dizziness and headaches. He kept repeating nonsense like “some people just aren’t mentally strong” and “sometimes we think we’re ready but we’re not”. It’s just teeth. Yank them out and let’s go. But ok. Make me feel like a hysterical 60s housewife instead, why not.

Seventh: I was unceremoniously taken out of the exam room, and practically badgered about rescheduling. I was still fuzzy from the nitrous and this woman is asking me when I can come back. It’ll be a while, sweetie, this nonsense used up all my sick time for now.

Eighth: She took care while asking me to reschedule, but the $500+ copay? Never mentioned. It wasn’t until we were in the car and a block away from the place that I realized I paid for a procedure that didn’t happen. I called back and the secretary explained they’d keep my money “for when I reschedule”. Oook. Also they kept my x rays that I handed to the doctor during the consultation. Planning on getting those back sometime soon.

So, all in all, it’s weird. The completely open availability (does he have no other clients? Why?), the office staff talking about all the great facelifts they’ve had from him (the reviews on their websites have the same names as the receptionists, lol), the fake, demeaning concern for my mental health, the assumption that I can just drop by again next week to undergo surgery (complete disrespect for my time and my boyfriend’s). The staff is incompetent: the same thing that happened with my pre-surgery instructions happened with the medical excuse required by my place of work. I had to remind them over and over to get it. Not exactly sure why the reviews everywhere are gleaming. Will update if I decide to go through with it.
