When I was a child I had a retainer bonded behind my bottom teeth for a short period of time but I never needed braces. As I am growing older, my front top teeth have shifted significantly. My smile has been bothering me for quite some time so I decided to go for an ortho consultation and decided to go for it. To my surprise, having the braces put on did not hurt at all. Barely any discomfort. Nothing a little Motrin can't handle. Worst part was getting used to the bite blockers. Overall, they are odd feeling at first but it goes away in a few days. I go back on April 21st to have my bottom braces put on. I can't wait! I have the Damon system so the brackets are really small. If your thinking about getting braces, don't hold off like I did. Just go for it. You'll be happy that you did. :)

You are lucky you did not wait for too long. I am 63 year old and retired I had my braces done last month (March 2). I waited for too long because there was no way I can afford the cost. I was raising 2 children on my own because my husband passed away leaving me a 5 year old boy and 1 year old girl. Now that my children are young adult but still live at home but they are financially independent, now I can afford to lavish myself. My braces cost me over $7000.00 Australian dollars. The braces my Ortho used is the Damon Clear/Damon 2. I have to wait 18 months for this treatment to finish. I can't wait. Good luck to yours.
Braces fit in March 2015 and estimated treatment time is 18 months.
I know the feeling - my daughter is grown up now and on her own now but I still have my 13 year old son at home. But good for you for doing something for yourself! I hope that your treatment is going well so far. :)
Congratulations on getting your braces! I agree you're never too old to make a positive change for yourself. I got my Damon braces on in December so I'm a few months ahead of you but I can't believe how quickly my teeth have moved. I still have the bite turbos but those no longer bother me other than the fact that my bite is still a bit open so I have difficulties eating sandwiches and such. Good luck on your journey and take a look at my posts if you want to see my progress :)
Thank you, Jennifer. Congrats to you as well. My son had a consultation a few weeks after I did so now we are on this journey together. We go for our first wire change in mid June. :)
I am 53 at had my damon braces fitted last week, so am very curious how every one a bit older is coping

Thanks for sharing your story. Has your ortho told you how long you'll probably have your braces?
Hopefully not, but I suppose it will all be worth it!
