When I was a kid a had something called progressive myopia. My eyes got really bad really fast to the point they thought I might go blind as a child. They put my in hard contacts as a child to stop the progression. The progression slowed down but still got worse over my teenage years. The last time I had been checked they said I was 20/800 vision. I saw the same at 20 feet as someone with perfect vision saw at 800 feet. not good. Legally blind times 4. It was a goal of mine to get lasik one day. I went to grene laser here in wichita to get my lasik done. They were very polite and profesional. They brought me into a waiting room filled with comfortable chairs and gave me a valium to mellow me out a little. It didnt do much but I wasnt too nervous. When you go in the room its a little intimidating. They have this huge machine and you lay on a space in the middle of it. When you lay down the speak out your name and perscription. Then they put some drops in your eye to numb everything. They then put this device in your eye. This is the worst part. Its a suction cup the goes around the colored part of your eye. There is so much pressure. It feels like your eye may pop out. but it only lasts a second. This is when they make the flap. After they make the flap they take it out, close your eye and do the other eye. Then they go back to the first eye and open it with this mechanism they have that holds your eye open. This whole time they fill your eyes with drops over and over. the tell you to look at the lights that are on the machine over you. They were red and green. They open the flap and the lights orb out into huge lights. You can hear the laser going off it lasts probably less than 30 seconds. Another bad part is you can smell it. It smells like burning flesh. I just held by breath. Then they put your flap back on and get rid of any trapped air. Then they do the second one. After that they put sun glasses on you and an eye protector. They send you home and tell you to sleep for several hours which I swear you will do. After your surgery is done dont pass go dont collect 200 dollars go straight home. It doesnt take long for you to become extremely sensitive. I suggest if you're traveling to get a hotel. You will want to avoid light like the devil for at least 6 hours. And when you finally do go into the light use sun glasses. Its very sensitive. When mine was finished it looked like I could see clearly. it was immediate but it also looked like I was standing in a cloud. When I got up and walked around I still had some foggyness and at night there were tons of orbs. The orbs at night lasted for several weeks. The good vision was immediate though. Its the best money I ever spent. As far as recovery you dont need much. I would have went to work the next day. At the minimum take 2 days off though. just to be safe. I couldnt rub my eyes for several weeks. You'll want to be easy.

You say legally blind... Are you talking about your vision before or after correction?

Here's a little update

Im just about 13 months out of lasik. And I had some fuzziness in my right eye. Actually it was always that way. It just didn't get corrected quite enough but my left eye was perfect so it was pretty noticeable. Due to grene lasers agreements I got that eye done again for free. Simple procedure. Didn't have to have the pressure of the device that makes the flap because they just realized opened the old one. I have to admit that was a little uncomfortable but not painful. Vision is 100% now. Still worth every penny!

I had a little in the right eye. I would give it time before you worry. My doctor offered touch ups for the first year if you didn't get great vision. They would rather under correct than over correct. I did end up getting my right eye done again. Now I have no complaints.

Would you do Lasik knowing that a rare condition called “Corneal Neuralgia” develops after Lasik? And those who developed Corneal Neuralgia From Lasik Contemplated Suicide ?
I regret doing this. Solely because of the fear of developing that or any other complication that People Committed Suicide over.
It’s not worth risking it.

I'm about 30 mins post op! And I already love them. The tightness isn't so bad but uncomfortable. And I do have paid that I'm in the process of getting under control. But nothing is unbearable. I'm already in love!!!
Thank you for sharing such a detailed perspective of the procedure and I'm so glad you had such a great experience!
