WORTH IT
After years of debating whether or not to have a large raised 1cm mole removed from my left cheek I finally plucked up the courage to have it done.
I knew it would leave a scar but I didn't mind as I was fed up with it being a brown lump that Stuck out. It made me self conscious, I felt like people stared at it and although everyone told me it was part of me I hated it.
Here's my pics for those who are thinking of having this done. I've been warned it will look worse before it looks better ????

I get it'll look great! I had one that was huge! When is being up getting it removed, they'd be like 'your signature beauty mark?' Or 'but that's part if you.' Um sorry it out grew it's beauty mark phase and it's not a part of me I need.

Sorry...it posted too soon! Lol. Anyway, on the 15th I had mine shaved (when I was getting an upper and lower bleph), and so
far no regrets. I made sure I kept it moist and it completely filled in. It's darker right now but I'm seeing it slowly fade. Mine was totally raised and huge...like a big black pimple haha! Can't wait to see your updates photos!!

Lol, your comments are so true, I was always being told 'it's part of you, you won't look the same without it' . I feel great knowing its sitting in a jar in a lab somewhere. Mine has been excised out and I've got stitches. It's sore today but I'm still happy

I would be interested in seeing its healing process. Would you be willing to post up future pictures? Thanks

Definatley. I debated for years over this procedure. I've had no regrets so far even though the sutures look scary at the moment. Lol. I'll post another pic on Friday when they come out.

Thank you for posting! Glad to hear you are doing well and happy with your decision to remove it.

When do you get your stitches out?

Thanks chris, I'm really happy with it at the moment. I'm getting them out on Friday. I'll put more pics up over the next few weeks to help others. It was researching peoples stories that helped me make my decision

Just to add, my mole had grown and was indented. It was also throbbing occasionally and itchy!!! Sometimes you've just got to act rather than be vain. Feeling fabulous about my surgery at the moment x

Day 1- at its worst as expected

The area was sore overnight but not too bad. It's swollen this morning, I've taken a pic with the plaster off so you can see it at its worst. Sutures are due out on day six ????

Looks paler today, the purple was the pen mark drawn around it for the op

Cant wait to see how it looks once the sutures are off. Then it'll start fading from there!

I had one like that removed a few years back, and the stitches looked similar just after the procedure. With time it disappeared almost completely. I actually forget it was ever there. And I'm very glad I did it. Hang in there and be patient. You did the right thing.

That is a very severe scar! Where you given an option of laser or was mole considered to have a high malignant potential? X

I was reviewed by a dermatologist and two plastic surgeons. I have a strong family history of cancer and when the mole changed I got it looked at asap. It looks worse on the pic compared to reality. Just looking for some good concealer now, lol x

It was dodgy so it needed to be excised, to be honest it looks better in reality. I've also been taking antibiotics due to the swelling . I'll update more pics in time x

Day 6 post suture removal

User Avatar

On day three the swelling was worse and my GP started me on a course of antibiotics. On day four and five blood stained pus oozed from the wound. On day six I returned to hospital due to the infection. The area had calmed and the sutures were removed. The small opened areas have been closed with steristrips which I must wear for another 5 days. I'll keep you updated.

Oh gosh...were you given a topical to put over it in the meantime? I was given an antibiotic gel for my eye sutures and used aquaphor or a patch on my mole, even though it was only a shave. Keep us updated. This should only be a bump in the road and hopefully the infection heals soon.
August 21, 2015
...and actually looking at it now it doesn't look bad considering what happened.

Lol, thanks. It isn't too bad. The swelling has gone today, I'm gonna leave the strips on though until next week to help close it all.
August 24, 2015
Agree that it should be no big deal. I had the same (swelling, minor infection, ooze) on my wound, dealt with it with a topical antibiotic, and it cleared up nice and quick and didn't seem to negatively affect the final result.
August 23, 2015
so are you keeping your post-sutural wound moist and covered? also you're lucky you have no suture marks!
User Avatar
August 23, 2015
Yes, it's kept covered at all times. The sutures were tiny. I'm just hoping the small areas of the wound close with the strips.
