Hi everyone, I'm a 20 year old female and I'm getting my Invisalign trays next week! I've never had braces as in my teens because the dentist said I had pretty straight and healthy teeth that didn't require braces. My single mom was relieved because it meant no extra cost on an orthodontist. However, in my late teens and now in my 20's, I've notices that my teeth have slightly began to shift and crowd. I hate the fact that I have "vampire teeth" when I smile so as a result I've stopped smiling with my teeth in pictures. This was upsetting for me personally because I'm a very smily person and love to smile! And I want to feel comfortable smiling with my teeth. So, I expressed my insecurities to my dentist and she said I would be a good candidate for Invisalign. Dr. Stoian's staff, Chris, was very helpful and told me she could set me up for a mold impression that day to send to the Invisalign lab. I was so excited!
They took a bunch of x-rays of my teeth, took pictures of my teeth, face, and profile, and then took a mold impression of my teeth and bite. She kept warning me that some people gag on the mold, but honestly it didn't bother me one bit. You just have to remember to breathe through your nose and not your mouth, or else you'll smell/taste the mold.
After that was done, I payed the receptionist who checked me out $250 for the lab fee which she said would go towards my total payment. I was scheduled for an appointment in 2 weeks to come back and see what the Invisalign lab had sent back.
Two weeks later, I went back to review the video simulation Invisalign had created using my mold impressions. The plan was for 11 trays. I liked pretty much everything about the final results except for the fact that I still had a significant overbite. I told them I would like my front teeth pulled back a little bit to fix my alignment and they said they will note that and send it back to the lab for another/updated video simulation. The whole appointment took like a total of 5 minutes so I was happy to be in and out.
Then I got a call from the dentist's office two days later saying the new video was ready. I was surprised at how speedy they were!
So I went in and they showed me the video once again and this time I noticed the changes more and results I wanted. However, now it estimated a total of 19 trays for a total of around 10 months. I was fine with this and we approved it for the trays to me made, which takes about 2-3 weeks. I paid for the treatment in full after that appointment and everything came to $2995.
I'm not just waiting for another week and hopefully my trays will be in by them!

Welcome to the invisalign forum! 19 trays is a pretty short time frame compared to most people so you are pretty lucky. Looking forward to your photos!

My original treatment was 12 trays, now I'm on tray 5 of refinement. After the initial treatment, my top two front teeth still needed to be tipped forward because my bite was too tight, so there are small divets (sp?) one the liners near my gums. How I understand it, this forces the bottom of my top teeth to move forward which will correct my bite.

My initial liners were made with the molds too, but my ortho got a 3D imaging machine before i needed new molds for refinement. Thank goodnes, because I am an awful gagger and I was dredding the molds the entire six months!

Just a heads up...the 3D-made liners fit SO much better. Not that the first liners didn't fit well, but I have one wisdom tooth that the liner would rest on top of instead of wrapping around the whole tooth. When I got my refinement liners, the edges were smother and the fit was more customized. I would ask your ortho if he/she is planning to get the newer machine!

Hi all,
So I went in for my Invisalign appointment yesterday and got my week 1 aligner put on and brought home aligner 2.
They needed to shave a little off from a few teeth on top, which I would say was the part of the procedure. She took these little razor blades and what felt like sawing between my teeth. It didn't necessarily hurt, but since my teeth are a little crowded in the front, I felt a bit of pressure. It was just horrible because I could hear the blade cutting against my teeth and the noise made me nervous and gave me a big headache. Then she put the attachments on my teeth and fit the aligners in. Relatively quick and easy. The only discrepancy was that the bottom right side of my aligner didn't fit or snap on to my teeth all the way so a part of it is just hanging, but the rest of it fits well to the shape of my teeth.
So as I write this, it's been 24 hours since I've worn my first aligners. Coming out of the dentist's office, I was like "wow this is easy!". I didn't have any pain or trouble speaking so I was ecstatic! However, as hours went by, my teeth started to hurt. I took them out to eat, brush my teeth and then put them back on again. I'm still not accustomed to wearing them so I have a hard time taking the aligners off. They're so tight! It takes me a good 10 minutes to get them off. I'm always scared I'm going to break the aligners because I really have to wrestle with them to take it off.
I've noticed the pain is especially worse when I wake up from sleep/nap...not exactly sure why. They feel super sensitive as though I can literally feel my teeth shifting. I do have a high pain tolerance so I can manage but if it bothers me for a long period of time, I take ibuprofen and that helps.
Hopefully the soreness/pain minimizes in the next two weeks until I have to put on my second pair of aligners haha.
Thanks!

I noticed that my teeth hurt more first thing in the morning after sleeping for 8 hours or so, but I assumed it was because I was wearing them for an extended length of time without removing them to eat and clean them. I also assume that the additional pain occurs because it's easy to experience dry mouth while you're sleeping, as saliva production is usually reduced during sleep (although some people have the opposite experience and find that they drool excessively while wearing the trays during sleep).

I think you're right. I'm experiencing more dryness when I sleep because the fan/ac blows in my face. Thanks for the comment!

You're welcome! I only realized as much when I noticed that my teeth would get painful any time I spent a lot of time speaking (and experiencing dry mouth) but felt better as soon as I started drinking water. Dryness causes the trays to rub more, apparently! I now keep a bottle of water on my night table and carry water with me wherever I go.
