I'm a 58 yo female. High blood presure, high cholesterol, underactive thyroid (Hashimoto's) Starting weight 220 - Day 7 down 2.6 pounds Hope to lose 40 to 50 pounds.

Seven days after placement, I must say things are going better than expected. My doctor prescribed a protein pump inhibitor, Pantoprazole, 40mg twice a day, for 10 days prior to the procedure, to cut down on stomach acid. I will remain on this for the 6 months I have the balloon. He also prescribed Zofran, 4mg, for nausea, and Hyoscyamine Sulfate, 0.125mg, for stomach spasms. I take these 3 times a day for the first two weeks, and then once in the morning or as needed. I believe these meds have helped with some of the symptoms other patients have experienced.

Before the procedure, I was given IV fluids, etc. During the procedure I was sedated and it only took 13 minutes, although I was asleep for about an hour. When I woke I had no nausea, I sipped a small amount of water and was released to go home.

Day 1 - I drank clear liquids, warm broth, popsicles, jello, juice, Gatorade, pedialyte, hot tea. 230 calories
Day 2, 3 & 4 - I started introducing protein drinks, yogurt, thin cream of wheat made with skim milk, oatmeal, pudding, and cream soups. The first three days I relaxed and slept as needed. 400 calories on Sat and 600 on Sunday and 400 on Monday
Day 5 - I ate 1 egg scrambled along with other liquids. I also went to the gym and did upper body exercises only. Got in over 5000 steps. I use a Fitbit One to keep track of water, food, calories and exercise.
Day 6 - I saw the doctor for a check up. Will go back in 3 weeks.

Dr. Wenger was very informed on the procedure. He and his staff made me feel at ease before, during and after the procedure. He gave me his personal cell # in case I had issues over the first few days.
