7 weeks post op VSG surgery

Just a quick update. My highest weight ever was 294. My pre-options class I was 280. My surgery weight was 269 with Dr. Casillas at Kaiser Permanente in West Los Angeles. I am 7 weeks post op and have lost a total of 39 lbs. I'm counting from Week 0 because when I came back from the hospital I went up to 276. I am no longer taking insulin or glipizide and am taking one tab of metformin to help me manage my diabetes type 2.

This is not an easy road to follow. I am caffeine free, alcholol free, sugar free and carb free. I am drinking a lot of water because I am thirsty most of the time and I do experience hunger. I restrict myself to certain foods and am afraid to touch carbs and sugar. I am scared that once I start, there will be no going back. I know this is my last chance to get to a fighting weight within the next year. My doctors are impressed with my progress which was really great to hear.

WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY

Is this a little bit too much or too late?

Right now I am taking the Options classes with Kaiser. They expect you to lose 10% of you body weight. I have lost about 5 lbs. and need 20 lbs. to go by mid-January 2015. I hope I can lose the weight and am afraid that I won't be able to do it. I have a lot of back pain and it feels like my back is splitting in two. Almost feels like bone cancer. Is this menopausal or is this because of all the weight I carry or can it be arthritis? It is hard to walk when you're in pain.

I have started my 1200 calories a day diet and drinking 64 ounces of water. I walked yesterday and today and my entire body hurts. I probably overdid it. I walked for 80 minutes.

Provider Review

Kaiser Permanente

My PCP (Primary Care Physician) and I were on the same page with the bariatric surgery. I have been thinking about it for years but I was too chicken to do anything. I guess certain things had to happen for me to realize that the universe is giving me time right now to do this and I hope I can dedicate all of my time and energy towards this process. My mother is only 19 years older than I and she has so many complications from her Diabetes Type I. I see my future in her. Congestive heart failure, obesity, spinal stenosis, arthritis, cervical stenosis, etc. My mother can barely walk, her body starts shaking because she doesn't move. I am much heavier than her and moving is a challenge to say the least but I did walk for an hour today. I have a great PCP and my appointments are always fun!
