I Am a Plastic Surgeon and my Career Depended on my Vision - West Hollywood, CA

ORIGINAL POST

Hi everyone, I am a plastic surgeon in Beverly...

Hi everyone, I am a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills and was getting sick of wearing contact lenses because I started to get dry eyes, and was just annoyed at not being able to see. 2 other eye surgeons recommended Dr Benjamin to me and I could not be happier. I did not have LASIK, instead, I had a Visian ICL (lens implant placed) because my vision was too bad for LASIK. From the point where I walked into his beautiful office, to meeting his friendly staff, and finally Dr Benjamin, I was great impressed. I could tell that Dr Benjamin was passionate about eyes and getting me the best vision possible. With my severe myopia (nearsightedness), he could've done LASIK, but my vision quality would not be the best. With the ICL implant, I could get high definition vision, and he could make it where I wouldn't need reading glasses until I was much older. I am 35 now, and would probably need reading glasses by 40-45. It would've been a waste to go through surgery, and then need glasses afterwards.

It has been over a month, the surgery was easy breezy, I was back to work the next day. No pain, minimal discomfort, and I was 20/20 4 hours after my procedure at the check-up. He is a great surgeon with equally great bedside manner. Mayka, the refractive coordinator, was also very helpful and informative.

Please feel free to send me a message on RealSelf if you would like some more details.

Hello, how are your eyes doing? Do you have any complications? How is your vision? Thanks so much!

Dr. Shemirani, may I ask did you have astigmatism before you have your surgery done? If you do, did the surgery able to correct it and by how many dioptre? Would you mind PM me if you don't want to disclose it here? Thank you so much, Alvin

Hi I had My Surgery in May . I haven't called Visian yet, but I head the lens is only available in 1/2 diopters. I wish that I got a second opinion on the RX to be selected for my sight. Im not sure if my Dr. chose the correct lens RX. I'm having a frustrating post op period. only seeing 20/30, halos, dry eye, HD not noticed. I was sold a dream.
I don't think their studies include many of those with unfavorable results. I have tooooo many negatives. How is it possible I get all the side effects they say should not occur?
Biased research??

Hi realright,
I did not have astigmatism, and I thought that they were working on an ICL for astigmatism but it was not out yet. Where did you have it done?

Sir, I too had this ICL done about one month ago I got my right eye vision immediately the day after the surgery very clear But my left eye needed surgery double time coz at first time the lens implanted was a little bit cross The left eye remained blur. I am able to see through the pinhole very clearly but without it was very blur. The surgery took place about a month ago.But the blur remained same in my left eye. Can I expect the clear vision.

Dear Harshith,

I am not sure what to expect, I would contact your doctor. I had to go through multiple tests including a laser iridotomy to make a hole in my iris to circulate the fluid inside the eye. I hope you get better soon. If you cannot get the answers you are looking for, I would suggest finding another doctor for a second opinion.

Best,
Nima

I am facing the same issue. Lenses were implanted twice in my left eye. Surgical PI was also done as the pressure increased drastically after ICL was done for my left eye. So the lens was replaced last wednesday. After the surgery my vision is blurred. right eye is good but similar to you, left eye has blurred vision. Can you please tel me whether your vision has improved now and what you did to get better vision?

Dear ted007,
I would let Harshith reply to your question. If he does not respond, you can also ask this question to the ophthalmologists on RealSelf and maybe you can get more helpful information. I hope you feel better soon.

best,

Thanks for your reply. When i checked with my doctor, he said, the effect of the medicines used during the surgery are still there and that my pupil is dilated. He said it might take around 2 weeks for my pupil to come back to normal after which I can see well. Do you have any idea about it? If yes, please advice!
