I initially met with Dr. Kapadia at the Boston Eyelids facility in Wellesley, MA about 5 to 6 weeks prior to my surgery, while I was investigating options to eliminate the bags under my eyes. At that time, my primary concern was for my recovery, and whether the bruising and swelling from surgery would be visible for an extended period of time. Dr. Kapadia described the surgical procedure, and how his methods typically resulted in less bruising and swelling, with recovery from the surgical trauma taking two weeks on average. He described how the incision he would make inside my lower eyelid would be so small that no stitches would be required to close the opening. Also, Dr. Kapadia removes all the fat cells, whereas many doctors relocate the fat cells to adjacent areas for reshaping and filling, which can cause additional local trauma, further adding to bruising, swelling and recovery time.
Aside from the blizzard that marched through Boston the day of my surgery, the outpatient procedure was quick and without incident. I woke and noticed only two minor bruises under one eye and minimal swelling around both eyes. Dr. Kapadia spoke with me before and after the surgery, and he cautioned me saying that bruising and swelling could continue for a few days. I was also contacted regularly over the next two weeks by his staff, who were checking on my progress, while additionally providing many useful tips to aid and expedite my recovery.
Aside from the two minor bruises, I also experienced yellow bruising of the skin around my lower eyelids, but all visible signs from the surgery had subsided within a week. Since that time, most people I meet comment that I seem more rested and relaxed, at which point I mention the surgery. I couldn’t have had a better outcome that resulted in an improved appearance by about ten years.
