I had fraxel done the milder treatment. I was told by my doctor " you will love the results". Also was told it was very safe. Almost a year l noticed white spots along my jawline. I did not think it had anything to do with the laser treatment at the time. I went to a dermatologist to see what was going on with my skin. He immediately asked if I had laser done and told me to go back to the doctor who had treated me. I did go back to Dr. Rosalyn George of Wilmington Dermatology in Wilmington N.C. She said there was absolutely no permanent damage and I had recurring melasma. I've never had melasma but she's board certified so I trusted in her. Here are my photos, you decide if you want fraxel. By the way she feels all the hypopigmentation on my face was always there and the pictures are compatible...again you decide.

Same thing happened to me after having a laser treatment done , it was horrible!! I couldn't go anywhere or enjoy being outside without being very self conscious. Had laser done March of 2010 and FINALLY now 2016 the spots are gone . I did an Apeel ( chemical peel ) last year in the fall , then used a cream with a bleaching ingredient, hydrocortisone, retinol over the winter . I am now able to go in the sun without sunscreen and so thankful I don't have to deal with the embarrassment of the spots .

I also had the hyper and hypo pigmentation, and mine was MUCH worse than yours, I don't know if it just went away with time or if it was from the chemical peel and cream I used , I hope you have luck with yours and it goes away , I know how you feel and what your going through

Thank you Lisa. It's been an awful time dealing with this. I hide my face constantly. I would do anything to have my face back before fraxel.

I too had laser treatment many years ago twenty odd.
Like you I got white spots along the jaw line, they have faded but still there.For many years I had to wear concealer then foundation always, now the foundation will cover.
I was never told that this could happen and unfortunately it does too often

Could be previous sun damage starting to show through. I've got white spots too. Noticed a few more on my chest this year. :( No lasers there. Best of luck.

Thanks for posting; I believe I will keep my sunspots and control them with retinol. I was intending on doing fraxel..lbut no way...

Yes I have the some problem after fraXel melasma on my forehead and cheeks I can never go on Sun again with my face and is hard when you live in florida we can only hope they find different laser to fix the problem also you have area which is hard to hide against the sun prescription retinol definitely help also helps with collagen but for now we just have to cover it with make up
