10 yrs later...

So, it's now 10 years after my implant was placed. Last year, I noticed a little red dit firming in the gums above my implant. I had gum surgery to try to fish it out (trying to avoid a replacement tooth), but 6 months later the infection was still present. So, I got the old crown (which was cemented into the fixture of the implant itself) remember ved, and have been wearing a partial denture to fill the gap woke my gums heal.
Tomorrow, I will be getting my new crown screwed into the implant.
Ps the drs think my mouth shifted from age 16-26, so the pieces weren't fitting together 100%, allowing bacteria to get in to the implant site. My gums are looking great now.
PPS the implant itself has not/is not being removed - only the crown which screws into the implant is. I will post photos of my tooth gap, me with a weird screw they used during impressions for the new crown, and me wearing the partial denture.

I am writing this review 10 years after my first...

I am writing this review 10 years after my first dental implant. The cost is approximate, as I can't fully remember. I am currently getting the crown on the implant replaced.
When I was 16 years old, I was hit in the mouth with a glass bottle. One front tooth broke in half, and the other (tooth # 22) incisor shattered.
I was immediately seen by a dentist who referred me to a dental surgeon straight away. She removed the shards of tooth from my gums, stitched me up, and referred me to periodontist Dr Hadfield (now retired) in Victoria, BC, Canada.
Dr Hadfield had to perform bone augmentation before the implant could be placed. I remember this surgery being uncomfortable, and I wish I was put under anaesthesia. The bone augmentation took approx 9 months to heal before the implant could be placed. During this healing time, I also had a root canal and crown placed on the front broken tooth (which survived).
While the bone augmentation was healing, I wore a partial denture. Most people could not tell it was fake, unless I told them. I will insert photos, as I am currently wearing one again.
Once my mouth was all healed, I got the implant surgery. At 16 years old, I was terrified, and I REALLY wish I had been put under for this surgery as well (my parents said no). Local anaesthetic was fine, but I remember that I could still feel the pressure during this surgery, and I was just traumatized by everything that was going on with my mouth since the accident. *I do not regret the surgery for one minute, I just wish I wasn't awake for it! *
After all was said and done, the tooth looked great, healed great, and lasted 10 years until I started have no an issue with my gums now, and I will start a new post with that story.
100% worth it!
Ps I'm a trumpet player, so I needed this tooth because the mouthpiece sits on the lips over this area.

This was 10 years ago, so I don't remember much about the Dr (I was 16) but he did a great job.
