Hello people,

Just wanting to share my experience of being diagnosed with under bite since childhood. I had orthodontic treatment when i was 10-12 but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem and was brought up a few times when i saw the dentist when i was in my young adult years. I just felt it was okay then and rather not have something invasive done if it's not bothering me. I did notice my jaw joints were getting painful on chewing tough food before deciding on treatment. Due to my underbite, i also had self esteem issues about my side profile and always covered my forehead with a fringe so my face didn't look so narrow.

After much consideration, I planned to have orthodontic treatment in consultation with Oral maxillo facial surgeon to have double jaw surgery to fix my underbite and cross bite. I will require upper jaw advancement, lower jaw reduction and correct my facial assymemetry and chin point deviation (tilted to the right). I did enquire my OMFS if i required chin reduction but he suggested it's not required at this stage. I am due to have surgery soon and have attached the projected image after surgery. Please let me know what your thoughts are.

I am in a similar situation as uou, only I am just now about to get braces. We're in the planning stages so orthognathic surgery has come up yet again, as it has with every orthodontic consultation and multiple times at arious dentists since I was a child. I'm thinking I am finally going to do it. I haven't been back for another consultation at the OMS yet but have had it twice before. I'm not sure what the plan will be to accommodate for the braces but it was suggested this time to make that a part of my braces planning as well, which is wise considering what you went through as well. I didn't see what your projected image looked like as it didnt show but from everything I've seen so far, it never makes anyone's appearache anything but better. It's a lot to go through though. I did just read a few minutes ago that 76% of people who have it say it was worth it, so I guess that's comforting. Lol. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that everything goes smoothly for you!! If you'd like to keep in touch, feel free to email me!
Hi I think you won't regret this surgery. Also I think you should get it done you will feel 100% more confident inside which is so important as insecurity can eventually eat away inside. I think any doubts you have chin reduction etc get all of it done! I think you have to do what makes you feel happy if none of it bothers you that much then I wouldn't worry but I think you must :)) I also have an underbite except I have a longer chin and massive jaw which looks masculine. I'm getting it done due to TMJ jaw disorder and deep self-esteem issues that have plagued me since being a teenager. When I was younger I never had an underbite and had a tiny face and nose. Ever since it developed pain developed and I have been bullied over it all my life. I've decided I want a successful life full of happiness, confidence and high self-esteem and because I'm going into media I need to feel 100% happy with my inner and outer self. So Yes get the chin reduction and jaw surgery xx
