A long overdue update - 10 months post op

Apologies for taking so long to update you all - here is me 10 months post op. In summary, recovery was honestly not that bad and I'd do it all over again in a heart beat.

My only qualm now is the asymmetry in my silhouette. At my 8wk post op appointment with Dr. Kim he took photos to compare with my before photos, and there was a BIG improvement (2.6L of fat makes a huge difference). However, there was some scar tissue formation in the centre of my upper abdomen above the navel and in the centre of my right flank (you can see the lump best in the first photo where the left side of my silhouette is smooth and the right side is not as much). At this stage, my scar tissue was worse than what it is in these photos and Dr. Kim told me it may take 3 - 4 rounds of injections which I have now completed free of charge at the clinic. I've certainly noticed a huge improvement in the upper abdomen, but not as much in my right flank. It also looks like my right hip possibly had less fat taken out than the other side, as there are two small 'bulges' on my right side whereas my left side is one seamless smooth line.

I'm going to book in to see Dr. Kim for my second post op appointment which was supposed to be at 6 months but I didn't get around to booking in for (oops) and discuss these concerns with him. It might be that I need more injections.

My last concern is that my skin in my upper abdomen is a little loose, making my navel appear a little saggy (this is difficult to see in my attached photos, I'll upload a better one in the future). I don't think this is Dr. Kim's fault, but rather the fact that my genetics and ethnicity leads to worse skin retraction than other people. Unfortunately the Gold Coast clinic doesn't offer any body skin tightening treatments, but Dr. Kim has recommended HIFU at the Laser Skin Centre in Varsity Lakes. I have had a consult and am apparently a good candidate for this treatment. So, if I go ahead with it, I will let you guys know if it helped (either as an update on here or as a separate review).

Again, apologies for taking so long to update you all. If you have any questions, feel free to comment them below :)

Day 4 Post Op

As you can see, my bruises are starting to develop and are super yellow at the moment. Today, I had my first massage at the clinic (you get a few that are included) and had my drains removed. The massage was definitely quite painful but tolerable; it's important to get as much fluid out as possible. I think the fact that I hadn't taken any pain medication prior (will do this next time) and was on my period definitely didn't help. But, all in all, today was a good day and I didn't feel any nausea/dizziness when I took my garment off to shower and self-massage. Still enjoying my shape and can't wait to see how things progress.

Day 1 Post Op

There isn’t much to report day 1 post op. I’m still feeling pretty tender and trying to use my arms and legs for any kind of movement. Sleeping on my stomach was not fun; having my neck at 90 degrees all night has been quite straining (can’t imagine how BBL patients go with that!) so if anyone has any advice on how to make that comfier I’m all ears. Also, I haven’t had to take any oxycodone so far which is great, I’ve just been taking the prescribed paracetamol/codeine pills. Here’s how I’m looking tonight in my garment which I can’t wait to take off, wash and shower tomorrow. Obviously I’m super swollen but I’m already liking my silhouette, it looks like Dr Kim did a great job sucking out my love handles!
Other random things I thought might be useful:
- The night of surgery (last night), whenever I got up I’d be hit with nausea hard and felt like I’d faint. So I’d quickly go lie down in bed to recover, and take a prescribed anti-nausea pill. Those worked like a charm and I’d highly recommend getting a prescription for those before liposuction.
- If you don’t have someone to cook for you, I also recommend having [almost] ready-to-eat snacks on hand, such as greek yoghurt cups and protein shakes. I have also been having peanut butter sandwiches more times than I’d like to admit. When I start to feel better on my feet, I’ll be having more nutritious meals.
- Also, I have been prescribed a bunch of stuff to take (some only if needed) which are anti-inflammatories, antibiotics, diuretics, anti-nausea and painkillers. All these came to about AUD $50 at the chemist which was a nice surprise (I thought it’d be more). These expenses are just something to be mindful of and, however, may differ country to country.
