One month in - progress

Its been one month in these photos and things are going really well. There’s still some swelling (which is expected for 3 to 6 months), but there were zero complications Ferve (the international coordinator) has been checking in with me constantly.
The body suit wasn’t a big deal. Yes, it’s not the most comfortable, but it goes on well below my clothes. And one upside is that because it compresses your body together, you typically don’t eat a lot in a big meal (this would be great weight saving device to use to not eat som much during Christmas...). But after one month it has been completely taken off.
There is still some lack of nerve sensation, but this is 100% to be expected. I had a deep cut before (elsewhere) that needed to be stitched and I didn’t get full sensation for probably a year after.
The photos are after one month. The swelling is down I’m guessing about 80%. Plus, I literally have done zero exercise (which I pretty frequently do normally) and haven’t eaten particularly well. I’m going to start both of those and I should start seeing less swelling and more muscle definition. I figure I’ll probably be close to optimal form at least 3 to 4 months in. I’ll post pictures then (regardless of if they are good or bad).

First Time User, So Long Review - Great Experience BTW

Overall, very satisfied. I’m only one month in but I’ll keep sending updates.
Sorry for the long review, but I feel like the long reviews are the best gauges of authenticity. The most informative other reviews (at least for me) for Dr. Metin Kerem were “catkins1” (Vaser Liposuction) and “Teaching Mama” (Liposuction).
And the long story begins….
First I was looking at Turkey to get a hair transplant (and only a hair transplant). I did research and the price/quality was unbelievablly better here than in the USA ($2,500 vs $20,000). But as I thought more about it, I also did a lot of research on liposuction (and vaser liposuction) and figured I’d do both procedures in one felled swoop. Might as well kill two birds with one stone.
Researching doctors: I did a lot of research on this site as well as another well-known site. After countless hours reading reviews, checking out backgrounds on the internet, etc., I had a short list of two doctors. When I got quotes from both, I just had a good intuition about Dr Kerem. Ferve (the international coordinator) was quick to get back to me, but we also had a back and forth exchange about safety, etc.. I felt like the other doctor was quick to tell me what I wanted to hear, whereas Ferve was insistent that I need to stay in the country for a week to get checkups before heading out. Even though Dr. Metin was more expensive (but not a lot), I went with him.
Waiting: And now the wait… I did this research and negotiated everything about six months before the two procedures, so I would check up monthly with Ferve to make sure everything was ok. I was probably being annoying, but this is a big deal for me. I had never been to Turkey, let alone had surgery outside of the U.S.A.
Flying in: This was where I realized how good Ferve was. The night of my flight, the plane kept getting on and off the tarmac (literally four times), and finally they canceled the flight at 4am. But I was supposed to have my surgery the day after my arrival, and now I wouldn’t be able to arrive for at least another day. Ferve had to scramble, but worked out a way to re-book my hair transplant and get reserve a room in the hospital for another day. It was definitely stressful to think about, but she made sure everything lined up. She also coordinated with the hotel so that I wasn’t booked an extra night.
Arrival: I didn’t coordinate a pickup with Ferve, but it was easy enough to find a driver to take me to the hotel for $20. One recommendation – get a Turkish sim card. I didn’t, and only relied on wi-fi, and it was a pain. This was really stupid because I was already paying for all of this, what is an extra $20 or so. The hotel (Crown Plaza Harbiye) was nice enough. The rooms were nice, and there was breakfast in the morning. There were also nice facilities, but I honestly used almost none them. The nice thing is that the hotel was close to the hospital where the liposuction procedure occurred
Consultation with Dr. Kerem: The next morning, the driver Hasim (super nice guy) picked me up from the hotel and drove me to the clinic. I met with Dr. Kerem and he was very nice (and spoke English very well). It wasn’t a very long consultation because I think we were already mostly on the same page. For the liposuction, he seemed very conservative, wanting to keep a natural look (which was important to me). If you suction too much out, or try to etch too much fat, there can be lumps or have an unnatural look. But he said that I was a great candidate for vaser liposuction to get rid of small areas of stubborn fat. Then, for my hair transplant, he marked me up. He was conservative with this as well (which I appreciate because I do not want an unnatural looking hair). I paid in cash (which, by the way, is stressful carrying all that cash – I was so nervous someone could steal it…), and then the driver drove me to the hair clinic.
Hair transplant: I won’t be long with this but I just want to say that this procedure was outsourced to another hair clinic (I didn’t realize this at first, but I think hair transplantations are very specialized and going to a specialist is the right way to do it). It takes a really long time (they harvest individual hairs and then implant them individually). The doctor SEEMED good, but I won’t have results for a long time so I won’t comment on whether this was successful or not.
Vaser liposuction surgery: two days later I was picked up by Hasim (the driver) and taken to Hotel Abacadim (it was very close). BTW, I looked like I had been beaten up because the local anesthesia from the hair transplant fell to my eyes and I had two big black eyes (this goes away completely, so it’s nothing to worry about). The hospital was nice. I first met with the anesthesiologist (who spoke English well and seemed very competent). Then Dr. Kerem and his assistant came in and marked me up (see photos). It was quick, but I had confidence that we had similar visions. He was to remove some fat from my chest, lower abdomen, and flanks. I was then taken to the surgery room and given general anesthesia, and woke up to Dr. Kerem saying it went very well. Then I went back to my room.
Day one recovery in the hospital: Recovery was definitely more difficult that I thought. First, I didn’t have anyone there to support me (emotional support is probably the most important). Second, I was in A LOT of pain. The nurses helped me up to walk while they changed the sheets, and my sides/flanks were on fire. I could barely walk and literally had tears in my eyes (this was a combination of the pain and that my eyes were swollen from the local anesthesia from the hair transplant). Also, this is pure conjecture but I think the painkiller in the drip IV is very, very mild. I’ve been under general anesthesia in the U.S.A. a couple of times with pretty bad surgeries and the morphine worked great on my pain. But here, I was in pain for the entire night. Also, I think there’s a difference with vaser surgery if you do it locally because the local anesthetic stays in your system for at least another 12 hours, so as the pain gets better, the anesthia wears off (again, this is my non-medical opinion and I could be completely wrong). Anyway, making it through that first night was very tough, but the pain does subside as you begin to move around.
The next five days: I stayed in my hotel room for the next four days, just eating fruits, nuts, and power bars and watching a lot of Amazon Prime (Netflix did not work for me). Ferve was in contact with me the whole time, so I knew if something bad happened that I could contact here quickly. I wore a tightening suit (I think it’s called a faja) that was not the most comfortable thing to wear. But it did have holes to go to the bathroom in…
Last consulatation with Dr. Kerem: I have my last consultation with Dr. Kerem and everything seemed good. There were no open wounds (I think because I only had 1.5L taken out the didn’t need to have open canules). I would have to wear the faja another month, but that was about it. I’ll keep you posted on the updates (hopefully every month).
