Argh! I wrote a whole long update and RealSelf lost it!

Quick summary: still some swelling and bruising, but I already think it is one of the best things I've ever done. My jeans fit better (no pulling and straining around the zips or buttons), I feel confident in low-rise trousers and skintight dresses, and can't wait to see the final results at 6 to 12 months post. Dr Hamlet and Raddy have both been excellent throughout, and I can't recommend them enough.

I don't have 'before' pics - I was never confident enough to have photos showing my upper arms or stomach - but here are some 'after' pics from December and earlier this month, together with a 'wish pic' showing the look I was going for.

Op and hospital stay - vaser and renuvion (abdomen and upper arms) - Dr Grant Hamlet and Highgate Private Hospital

I decided to go ahead with the Vaser liposuction and Renuvion with Dr Grant Hamlet. His PA, Carla, was really responsive and helpful in making sure that I got booked in and all of the pre-operation admin (payments, consent forms, blood tests etc) was sorted.

On the day, I arrived at Highgate Private Hospital for 10:30am. I was shown to my room, and introduced to a parade of staff who would be looking after me during my stay. They left me to get settled and into my hospital gown before Dr Hamlet came in. He spent plenty of time chatting to me about what would be happening, going over the possible side effects etc before marking me up and taking photos. I had been very nervous, but he completely put me at ease.

When I came round from the operation, I was kept in recovery for a little longer than expected because my oxygen levels wouldn't rise. Dr Hamlet came down to give me a quick summary of how the surgery had gone and show me a video of the results but I was still a little out of it so he said he'd see me again the next day.

I eventually got taken back to my room, and the nurses brought me some tea and sandwiches. I had a catheter and 2 drains, so I was effectively bedbound for the next 12+ hours until the catheter was removed, then I had to call someone every time I wanted to get up and walk around so that they could help me manage the drains. I was in a fair bit of pain when sitting up or lying down, but the electric bed helped and the staff kept me well looked-after with pain medication etc. Dr Hamlet came in on Tuesday evening to check my obs, see how I was getting on, and go over how everything had gone again now that I was more awake. I was kept in the compression garment and foam and my hospital gown, plus compression socks and massage boots on my legs (to guard against DVT), so it got very warm at times.

The drains were removed on Wednesday morning, and the nurse got me up for a shower before I was discharged. It was my first time seeing my body without the compression garment on. With the combination of bruising and leftover Sharpie from Dr Hamlet's markings it was quite a shocking sight at first, but I could see my arms already looked thinner. Showering and drying was painful, but the nurse helped and I felt much better afterwards.

Dr Hamlet works with an MLD therapist, Raddy, and I was discharged straight to an appointment with her. Raddy is an absolute gem. She explained a lot about the healing I could expect (spoiler: it's very much a 'your mileage may vary' situation), how the MLD will help etc, and really eased my mind about everything. After the treatment, she helped me into a clean compression garment and showed me how to put it on myself. The MLD therapy really helped with the pain and stiffness, so the taxi ride to the flat I was staying in felt like a breeze.

I can't say yet whether it was all worth it - I still don't know what the results will be - but so far, so good!

Update: Post consultation

I had my consultation with Dr. Grant Hamlet a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure what I expected, but it was very different to anything I'd imagined when thinking about how the consultation might go.

Grant is very approachable and friendly. He began by taking a very comprehensive history from me, then we moved on to talking about what I wanted to change about my body. When we started looking at my stomach and arms, Grant identified that my main issue is actually excess skin rather than fat. He was really honest about the options open to me and the amount of change that I might be able to get, especially once we factored in the fact that I have endometriosis.

As my problem is more excess skin than fat, Grant suggested that I have a consultation with one of his plastic surgeon colleagues, Dr. Mark Solomos, to look into an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) before deciding whether I want reunvion and mid-def vase on my torso, so that I have fully investigated all of the available options. He was also very firm about discouraging me from surgery on areas where I wouldn't achieve the look I'm after or where there is a high risk that I would end up looking worse.

Grant is very thorough, and even suggested that I get tested for low testosterone after hearing that I struggle to build muscle on my upper body in spite of working out 6x a week.

I've been quoted just under £19k (renuvion on torso and arms, mid-def vaser on torso, inc. 2 nights in the private hospital), plus about £1k for aftercare (massages etc). That quote will probably expire before I've met with Mark (couldn't get a consultation appointment with him until early September due to holidays etc), but hopefully won't go up too much. There are definitely cheaper options out there but, having met Grant, I am even more convinced that it is better to go with the best if you can afford it.

I'll update again in September after my consultation with Mark.
