Facial "broken capillaries": GONE! Vancouver, WA

For some years I've been somewhat self-conscious...

For some years I've been somewhat self-conscious about the "spider veins" (telangiectasias) below my nostrils and on my cheeks. While mine were very mild compared to many other people, using concealer only partially masked the problem -- and then for only minutes, as my complexion is very oily.

Cutera laser was used (I believe it was the Excel V; nd: YAG). Mostly, I couldn't even describe the sensation as "uncomfortable". It was more of a sensation than anything else, resembling a momentary sharp snap of a rubber band. Only 1-3 pulses of the many done could be described as even slightly painful. Jauna commented that individuals respond widely in their tolerance, and that for some people can be actually quite painful. My face was flushed & minimally puffy in the treatment areas -- it resembled sun or wind-burn -- when I departed the office. Even that faded within 1-2 hours.

I was beyond thrilled with the results that day -- and now 72 hours later, am even more thrilled. The telangiectasias under both nostrils were GONE before I left the office. I still can't believe it. The other veins are also gone, with the exception of the largest one on my right cheek -- and that is well on its way to disappearing, just as Joauna predicted. My only regret is waiting to have this done. Joanna said that she hears this frequently. I simply had NO idea that obliterating those pesky veins could be so easy, so comfortable, and so cost-effective. I didn't think to take any "before" pics.

The charge was $100 / 15 minutes. Fifteen minutes were all that was needed, and multiple treatments will clearly not be necessary. My procedure went so rapidly that Jauna ended up zapping other veins on my chin because there was still time remaining of the 15" predicted for my procedure.

Side note: Jauna advised no cardio or weights, etc. for 48 hours following the procedure as that could undo the results. Walking is OK. Of course, I followed her advice.

Jauna was awesome! She was warm, unhurried, and professional. She clearly described the procedure, risks, and possible outcomes. I felt like she was a caring friend who only had my best interests at heart. She is on the team at PeaceHealth Plastic Surgery, with Allen Gabriel MD.

Sounds like you had a great experience- I'm so glad it was that easy to remove the veins.  Will your results continue to get better over time or is what you saw a few days later the end result?

Jauna advised that while some capillaries (telangiectasias) may be obliterated immediately, others may take up to 6-8 weeks to display the final result. The obvious multiple vessels under my nostrils were *gone* when I left her office and have shown no indication of recurring. The most obvious vessel on my right cheek (1" long, and bright red) -- the one I most wanted zapped -- has improved by 70% already. Each day it seems to become slightly less obvious (tinier, shorter, & less red). I doubt it will need re-treatment. Even if I already had all the improvement I was going to get, I would still be thrilled with the results and could very easily live with my results. That pesky cheek capillary now resembles nothing more than a miniscule faint pink 1/2" scratch; I doubt anyone else would notice. Tinted moisturizer completely covers it -- it is that tiny and faint. Jauna did comment that part of a successful treatment is being able to find the correct wavelength for any given vein, and that an indicator of success is immediate reaction of the telangiectasia to the laser. In other words, if the vessel initially responded to the laser, even if it isn't obliterated on the spot, chances are good that it will eventually resolve (or at least improve) within the 6-8 weeks.

I'm glad the big one on your cheek is getting better and that you are happy with the treatment.  Thanks for the additional info.  I hope you let us know if you see more improvement in the next couple months.

if there is no pictures followed by the whole post, it sounds more like a scam or advertising for a certain dr or clinic.

Were you able to go to work, or did you schedule time off for the procedure?

Even more improvement

The "broken capillary" (telangiectasia) on my right check continued to visibly improve by the day, and was 100% resolved within 2 weeks of the above laser treatment (Cutera Excel; nd: YAG). Telangiectasia under my nostrils are showing the slightest hint of re-developing, but are only visible via close inspection with 10x magnification. Because nares telangiectasia have an arterial (as well as venous) component, this is not uncommon, nor especially surprising. Even if new nares "broken capillaries" recur, I doubt they would be as noticeable as before. And, because of my extremely positive initial experience, I now would not hesitate to obtain another laser treatment -- the ease, safety, efficacy, and very reasonable cost make it no-brainer. I remain totally thrilled.

Btw, I'm a nurse practitioner so tend to research things as well as post explicit, technical details because I believe those are most helpful. I'm in no way associated with this office - I'm simply a regular patient who was seeking help with a pesky problem. My honest review was hardly a "commercial".

well, fair enough. If you can honestly post your before and after procedure pics, that would solve all the doubts and suspicion there ever was.

Any pre-treatment pics would not show a thing as I didn't think quickly enough to take any -- plus, macro lens would have been needed. An annotated photo taken today is the best that I can do.

see, thank you very much. now this post is much more legit.

only 1 mild recurrence, 2 months later

One telangiectasia has re-developed over the past few weeks under my right nostril -- which is no surprise, understanding the type of vessels that are in that area & their tendency to recur. The one re-developed "broken capillary" is extremely tiny however & I would probably be the only person to be aware of it. I feel no need to use concealer, the way I did pre-treatment.

I remain highly satisfied with my results & feel exactly the same way I did in my earlier posts. Other areas have not shown even the slightest hint of re-developing unsightly vasculature. Below is a photo taken today. Because I do not have a macro lens, I doubt if much will be visible photographically. Circled areas were the regions treated in Dec. 2014.

Hi, brilliant results. Ive got a telangiectasia on the side of my nose and im really worried about getting it treated because of horror stories. How many treatments did it take for you ? And did it get worse before it got better? Thanks
