A Perfect Procedure!
WORTH IT
I am currently in my 9th Post-Op day after my Vulvoplasty procedure and it is picture perfect. I’m a Transwoman who grew up in the United Kingdom but has been based in Nepal for 2 Years. I have been on hormones for 20 months and for me Gender affirming (SRS) surgery was the last piece of the puzzle. As someone who had significant physical dysphoria from their genitals, bottom surgery was very important to me. I researched thoroughly a range of clinics worldwide who would perform my SRS. Many had huge price tags associated with them, Olmec did not.
I researched further into Olmec and found their patient testimonials flawless, their results were incredible and it was evident Dr. Kaushik and the team had a wealth of experience and a great track record. Olmec’s fantastic social media presence also reassured me that everything was tailored to the patient and that you were part of the family, not simply a number. Pre- operative care was excellent, communication was done through Whatsapp and was always timely. The information was thorough and the designated driver, who picked me up from the international airport was fantastic. South Asian Medicine is overly cautious and not reactionary and Olmec is no exception, the thoroughness of Pre-op testing perfectly mirrored the high standards that Olmec uphold. As a bonus I definitely learnt some new things from the new medical reports.
My Pre-op consultation with Dr. Kaushik was comprehensive and it was very clear he was very patient focussed. The hospital has a lovely environment, and feels more like a luxury hotel than a hospital. Intravenous cannulation was exceptional and did not hurt and surgery ran as planned with no delays. The Anaesthetist and Dr. Kaushik were both very reassuring in the operating theatre and I awoke back in my room, to lovely Post-op nursing care. The nurses were exceptionally dedicated to making me comfortable and keeping my spirits high.
I came alone, and at no single point did I feel like I needed an attendant, because the Olmec Family welcomed with open arms. I was closely monitored on my first night and a DVT pump was used as a precautionary measure and taken off after the first night. I was on hard food the morning after the procedure and bed bound for 2 days. By Day 3, I took my first walk and walked to the lounge with the amazing support of the nurses. On Day 4 I took longer walks. On Day 5 the Catheter was removed and I seamlessly learnt how to urinate again. I was quite worried about this because I had heard horror stories of complications, but the staff were so well versed in this and closely monitored.
On day 6, I had my first shower (I did have many wonderful bed-bound sponge baths before that, I might add) On day 7, I was spending less time in my room and more time in the lounge, reading, chatting and working, dressing myself and not limited to the medical gown. Day 8 was extra special. I could climb stairs with ease and I had a truly wonderful day, the Aunties draped a saree and I had a lovely photoshoot and podcast. I could sit normally in a chair without discomfort. Finally, I had a lovely meeting with Dr. Kaushik and we cut a cake and shared it around the whole hospital staff, celebrating my affirmation.
