Hey guys, I'm 39 and have been struggling with my vag for the last 3 years. Ever since getting divorced in 2017. Really, the vag was a problem before that but my marriage was so crappy it didn't really matter. I had four vaginal births and three of them were traumatic. The fourth was a water birth so that helped. I'm 5'2" and really petite.
Sex wasn't satisfying. There wasn't enough friction. I was very limited in which positions worked. It was pretty depressing. I also found that my ex husband was massive. So that probably did some damage too. I was not ready to be 40 and throwing in the towel on a sex life is a terrible option. It's also a source of embarrassment and insecurity as I am single and dating. Generally speaking, I'm fit and athletic.
Things I tried before surgery:
1. O shot (2x)
2. Mona Lisa touch
3. Vivive
4. Pelvic floor rehab
5. Emsella
6. OTC supplements, sticks, and electric pelvic stimulation
Why oh why didn't one of them any doctors I saw tell me I needed surgery? No amount of DIY was going to help. After making the decision to get surgery, I reached out to a ton of options. Dr. litrel was clearly the best option. He's the most experienced, qualified and human. He was responsive and easy to schedule with. I decided to travel from AZ to Atlanta and booked the surgery out about 6 weeks from when I contacted him.

Hi, I’m a veteran of Vaginoplasty myself and wanted to chime in on something so important that you said: “Why, oh why, didn’t any doctor tell me I needed surgery?” I felt EXACTLY the same way after mine was done and I was relieved of all the symptoms and embarrassment that I suffered for years! I had even asked directly for this surgery (before I even knew what it was called) and one gynecologist said that maybe my partner wasn’t “big enough.” Wrap your head around that one!! Other doctors pushed the ubiquitous Kegel exercises! Yes, it’s important for us to know how to control and exercise the pelvic floor muscles, but if your vagina is too lax, and too wide, that remedy isn’t going to do more than give you a wide vagina with good muscle tone. While that is certainly better than nothing, it’s not the proper fix. Why is it that our sexual pleasure isn’t seen as vital as men’s is sometimes? I’m not sure, but I think many remedies for male sex organ problems are covered by insurance, and are probably offered more readily. Things are getting better now, in part because of forums like Real Self which gives us a place to talk to each other and gain valuable information. I believe so very many women could benefit from this surgery and would have it if they knew about it, and especially if it were even partly covered by insurance. I feel that so many years of my life went by spent in embarrassment and not having the sexual pleasure that I (we all) deserve. Sex is a vital part of life, and having a wonderful, healthy sex life is worth so much. I’m happy for you and for all of us who have been helped by the doctors out there who are willing to talk about this.

Surgery prep and surgery

I needed to travel from AZ to ATL three days before surgery for a covid test and pre op. It was a full day of running around complete with a bladder study. I opted out of any mesh. And just told him to fix whatever he found when he got in there. I hadn’t been planning on changing the labia majora but they were pretty deflated and Dr. Litrel recommended we reduce them.
You can see some hymen tags, stretched labia minora and a very unhappy vag.
Surgery was scheduled for August 12. I flew I the night before and stayed at a nearby hotel with my friend. I paid the doctor directly and the hospital, filled scripts in advance and stocked up on supplies like arnica, bromion, and Frida cooking pads. On the day of surgery, I arrived at the hospital and went through all the anesthesia consents. The doctor came in at surgery started 10:30 and finished at 1:30. Three hours of work.
I wanted to leave same day but the Dr. Recommended I wait until I could pee. That didn’t really work. After the surgery, in the hospital, I threw up constantly and couldn’t even sip water. They pushed fluids and I couldn’t pee. I didn’t get pain medicine regularly and about lost my shit after 8 hours of no pain meds. At 1:00 am I had a Catheter, emptied my very full bladder and left. I was much more comfortable when in the hotel when I could control the pace of medication and stick with the plan. It still took a couple days to pee normally but I could pee in the bathtub standing or on all fours. Sorry about the tmi but it might help someone!

Healing has been smooth but slow. I went back to work mostly from home but I’m still exhausted.
