41 Year Old, Had Subcision with Fat Transfer on Both my Cheeks - Vadodara, India
ORIGINAL POST
I have had severe acne scars on both my cheeks...
$300
I have had severe acne scars on both my cheeks since past 23 years. It didn't bother me as much until recently when I started working out and my scars got worse. After reading the reviews in this forum I consulted a PS in India who does subcision. Based on his recommendation I had subcision with fat transfer on both my cheeks. He harvested the fat off my belly and after the subcision he injected fat over the subcisied areas of my cheeks.
My face was swollen for a couple of days. Now I see some unattractive lumps on the areas where fat was grafted. There was redness and internal bruising on the first two days. The doctor told me that I would be able to see the final results only after 6 weeks.
As per my research in this forum, I hope about 40% of the grafted fat would remain while my body would absorb the remaining fat. That would take care of the lumps.
My doctor also recommends me to go for a CO2 fractional laser treatment to take care of the remaining scars after 6 weeks.
I am hoping that my rolling scars would be un-noticable after the healing process (ie 6 weeks).

Looks like you're going to have fantastic results! And thank you for the review, this is something I'm planning to have done soon.

Thanks. I am excited. I think the prescribed creams I have been applying at night and in the morning has been helping me as well. Will post more pics soon. So far I am really happy and excited.

May I ask what creams you were prescribed? Also, did you get charged a lot extra for the fat grafts? And I would be excited too! I have a feeling subcision is the answer for me. I finally found someone around here willing and able to do it. Fraxel did nothing. Microneedling thus far has given me about 15% improvement. Also, it's good that you're doing this before your face starts aging, because I know that aging makes the scars look worse. I'm 46 myself. I look forward to seeing your results!

I mix glycolic acid gel and trelinoin gel in a 30-70 ratio and apply at night. I am supposed to wash my face after few hours. But since I do not have any side effect of trelinoin (aka Retin-A) I usually wash it in the morning.
I apply a mix of Aloe Vera gel and Vitcy serum (some anti aging cream containing ascorbic acid and other ingredients).
The price I mentioned here includes the fat grafting procedure. Fat harvesting and grafting seems to be a delicate procedure and when it is done properly, about 70-90% of the grafted fat is expected to survive. So choosing a doctor experienced in facial fat grafting would be the key. However, this procedure is not risky as the effects of fat grafting can be easily reversed if you do not get the expected results.

One week after the Subcision with fat graft
Swelling seems to be totally gone. I can still feel the lumps over my face where the fat is grafted. However most people can't see 'em unless they pay extra attention.
The pic here is taken from a low resolution camera. I think this is how I look from a reasonable distance when people can't notice the details. The pics taken from a good camera still picks up the scars including the minor lumps over my cheeks.
The creams I have been applying over my face seems to have started helping improve my complexion. However, I still have a lot of discoloration and pigmentation over my face and I expect it to improve in the coming weeks.
Will post more pics next week.

first of all you had a great improvement so congrats for that . second i wana to know are still holding that fantastic results, coz sometimes its due to microswelling and after a week or two when the swelling goes we end up with the same scars which we used to have earlier.

That is my concern as well. Will keep this post updated so that we would all know how effective this procedure is in the long run.

Third week after the Subcision with fat grafting
1. About 25 % of the fat grafted seems to be absorbed by my body so far. I expect to retain about 60 to 70% of the grafted fat.
2. The sunken look of my face because of huge depressed area on both my cheeks looks a bit plump now.
3. The acne scars (ice pick and box scars) which were not visible due to the swelling seems to be coming back.
4. I still see a depressed area on my right cheek. This is because that area was not operated (subcision+fat graft) by my doctor. When I asked him about it right after the procedure, he told me I should not worry about the results until 6 weeks.
I guess so far, I see about 80% improvement on my rolling scars. However there is almost no or minimal improvement on other type of scars.
I would post pics later this week.

Kindly, update after at least 8 to 10 weeks as they the healing process will almost end there. I have worst of these scars on both my cheeks and adjoining area of neck and also plan to go for the same subcision+fat transfer next month, but after your comments on the treatment's final results.

I am very interested in an update after 2 years have passed. I am planning to have a subcision + fat grafting procedure but still on the fence about it. Did you face "keep" much of the injected fat or was a lot of it absorbed by the body? Also did the fat transfer cause any skin irregularities? Thank you very much.

Hey brother.. How long was your treatment.. i mean the complete procedure.
Thank you.
Thank you.

July 20, 2015
It lasted about 1 hour 45 minutes. I had to rest for about 4 hours before I was allowed to go out. I could walk by myself after the procedure. But I had an hour of consulting a day prior to the procedure.
Welcome to the community, thanks so much for sharing your experience with us. So far your results look awesome! I can't wait to see your final results - keep us posted.
