Upper Eyelid Surgery (Upper Blepharoplasty)

I am almost 42, however, for many years I have noticed eye discomfort upon waking up in the morning. During my teenage years, I often had eye edema in the mornings that would resolve within hours and I was able to go on with my day, although hated showing to class with swollen eyes. This worsened with time and more hours were needed for recovery so by 3 pm my eyes looked more normal, however the recurring fluid accumulation on my top eyelids must have stretched the skin and when the edema resolved, I was left with permanent excess skin hanging and obstructing my vision. I started noticing that none of my friends were dealing with this issue, even though we are the same age. Ultimately, because my eyelids felt so physically heavy, I battled keeping my eyes open by flexing my forehead which took so much energy. An eyebrow lift with botox did not do the trick. I figured that it's not normal to make efforts to keep my eyelids open and decided it was time to fix the issue. It made no sense to wait until later in life to fix this because I want to live now.
I scheduled the surgery on 12/20/19, right before the holidays to have time to recuperate. Margaret was very attentive and worked to fit me into the schedule to accommodate my plans so the scheduling process was a breeze! Dr.Albert's assistants, Talia and Sarah were amazingly sweet and professional, they made me feel worry free and comfortable. Dr.Albert answered all my questions, he meticulously measured my eyelids and worked with such precision and ease!
The procedure took about 1 hr, including the before photos, numbing the area and the surgery itself. I used the self-administering PRO-NOX machine, a 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide gas mix which takes away all anxiety and disconnects your brain from any pain you may feel. You sit there awake, sipping on the gas as if you're drinking a nice wine, can talk to the provider and even have a laugh! My eyelids were injected with anesthetic solution so between this and the use of PRO-NOX I literally felt ZERO pain. Now, how incredible is that????
I was by myself after the surgery, a chaperone to take you home is not needed as the pro-nox gas wears off within minutes after you stop your last "sip" and I simply ordered car service home. Dr.Albert placed steri-strips (kind of like a tape) on my sutures and I was ready to go. At this time, I still have no pain. As I got home and into the evening I was expecting some sort of pain to start yet that did not happen. I had slight discomfort but no pain, no dryness and ended up taking no pain medication, including nothing over the counter. I did apply the ice packs Dr.Albert's assistants gave me when I left the office. The next day I went out to brunch and worse sunglasses. Of course I wasn't a pretty sight but totally fine and was able to actually enjoy my outing. The steri-strip "tape" fell out during the next couple of days and then my sutures were removed. Had another 10 day post follow up and I feel and look amazing! I did have bruising around my upper lids and the bottom lids which were dark and then turned bright yellow. My brusing was 100% gone by day 14, however, by day 9 I was able to conceal the bruising so that no one was able to notice I had the surgery. I now wake up in the morning looking beautiful and refreshed and I feel undeniably less tired since a huge weight and excess skin were literally removed off my eyeballs. My eyes have finally been set free!!! Thank you so much Dr.Albert and staff. Will forever be grateful!
