Upper Blepharoplasty -Aggressive

I absolutely loved doing my makeup and wearing winged eyeliner but because of my hooded eyes, mascara would Paint my lids and my winged eyeliner would disappear. I decided to undergo an upper Blepharoplasty. It’s been 9 weeks and I still can’t close my eyes completely. My doctor says it’s because the muscle is weak and will eventually become strong enough to overpower my lids.... I am convinced too much skin was removed and my concerns are not being taken seriously. Waking up in the mornings is uncomfortable (using ointment) but my eyes are still red in the AM’s. During the day they’re red (in some areas) either burning or cold ( I use eye drops for severe dry eyes consistently). Sometimes I’m to the point where it becomes desperately uncomfortable. I would advice that you guys go to an oculoplastic surgeon and not a general surgeon. I know I have to wait at least 6 months before I can hopefully have a somewhat unnoticeable successful skin graft. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. Pics are before, incision marking, directly after, sometime between and today. I rub Vit E on the incisions 3-5x a day and try to “stretch” the lids (following doctors orders.) In anyone’s professional experience, have they seen lid skin stretch more ~2 mm in the span of 6 months? Comments, recommendations etc fully welcome and appreciated!
Doctor removed muscle and fat (he said I had much more than someone my age.)
Wish Pic: Kim K lid for make up!

Hi there! I'm so sorry you are going through this. I have my surgery tomorrow and am nervous about that too. Have you consulted someone else on what can be done to fix it? You should have gone to someone else already for a second opinion. You should have been able to close your eye already. Make sure you are taping it shut at night to prevent damage to the eye. Who is this doctor? Please let everyone know so that other people can avoid the doctor--specially if he's not taking you seriously about your concerns and situation. I hope he's right that it'll relax, but if it hasn't happened in two months, I don't think it will. Go to another doctor who can fix it and then go to your original doctor and tell him to pay for it. If not, start the process of suing him. You need to get this fixed. I would recommend to not let him fix it. If he didn't get it right the first time and is blowing you off, I doubt he'll do a good job fixing it. You have to be stern or they won't take you seriously. Good luck. I'll check up on you later.

Most doctors wont see you until you're at least 6 months post op. I went to Dr. Jacobs in Virginia Beach, VA. I didn't want to throw his name on here until 6 months to give him the benefit of the doubt, but you're right. There has been no improvement since week 3 post op.
BUT.... How did your surgery go?!!

Hey girl! Well…idk yet. I think I’ll need revision and I feel like my lower lids now look sunken. Not sure how I feel about it all. I had complications with my right eye and although it is getting better, it’s still messed up. It feels very tight and I feel like it looks weird when I take pics of it looking up or sideways. I hope it’s from the complication (blepharoplasty chemosis).
I wanted to tell u that I was reading someone else’s post (I can’t find it) complaining of your same issue and there were others that were telling her that they too couldn’t close their eyes but that it did resolve with time. They mentioned lots of massaging and to allow it to heal. One of them also mentioned that she would tape her eye and take collagen. Just wanted to tell u so that you don’t feel so bummed. Maybe once the skin heals and relaxes a bit, it’ll allow for your eye to close. I mean, do look for second opinions, because the doctor should NOT have cut that much. At least there are others that have experienced the same, but have had good outcomes. So lets cross our fingers that the same will happen with you.

Thanks girl! It has gotten better. Not perfect and I still miss my old eyes and wish I NEVER did this or seen a different surgeon. I'm coming to terms with all this as well. It is what it is. Lesson learned.

Hi, why didn't you give his FULL name in your comment or better yet, tag this to the doctor? Your review is kind of being less impactful because people won't know who worked on you, and the doctor keeps doing this to more people. I imagine the intention was to get help for yourself and warn others to stay away from that doc? I am sorry you went through this, and hope you are able to get it fixed, so you can get the GREAT result you definitely deserve!

Hi please update,I am going through the same problem and very scared to stay like this, did u consider a revision or hopefully it gets better

Hi, it did get better but the pigmentation and scarring is still an issue. I now have about 1mm of incomplete closure in my left eye. My optometrist says he does not see it closing any time soon but aging will be my best friend. I'm beginning to come to terms with the fact that I will have dry eyes and an incomplete blink for a while before aging takes over. I still wear my glasses to hide the scars and because I experience less dry eye irritation with glasses as opposed to contacts. I have a consultation the this month with a surgeon who's been referred to as the best in the area by my Optometrist. My optometrist prescribed a nasal spray called Tyrvaya as well as the best contacts for dry eyes. They both help immensely. He's been more help that any other surgeon thus far.

Upper Eyelid Skin Hyperpigmentation
Intelligent135188September 9, 2023
According to my doctor, my upper eyelid skin is stretched thin causing my vessels to show to through the surface. I still have an incomplete blink and my eyes fall open at night. I tape them shut after I apply a night time eye gel. Daytime dryness is also prevalent and my eye sight has deteriorated. Doctor wants to give me an IPL laser treatment on my lids to help with the pigmentation. Not sure if I trust him.

Update, the same doctor kept cancelling the IPL treatment. After the second of third time I decided to see another doctor who wants to perform CO2 on my lids for scarring. I intuitively don't think this is the best treatment since I still have an incomplete blink.
I have an appointment coming up the end of this month with another doctor recommended by my optometrist. I have a feeling this doctor will be a perfect fit.
