Upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery - Quad Blepharoplasty
Honest review of quad blepharoplasty:
The surgery itself was easy. I had sedation, not anesthesia. Went home feeling alert and had no pain at all. Blurry vision was the only annoyance. That quickly turned into boredom because I couldn’t do much other than listen to audio books and sleep. First few days my eyes felt tight, but not painful. I iced a lot and slept elevated. My bruising wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be and went away pretty quickly; almost completely by the end of the first week.
Right away I was very freaked out by what I saw in the mirror though. First with eyes open I felt like I didn’t look like myself. It wasn’t that my eyes looked bad but I felt they they weren’t mine. And it freaked me out a bit. Luckily, I don’t feel that way at all anymore. Now I feel like I look like me but not tired. And now I see the color of my eyes, which I love but barely noticed before. It still makes me happy.
But when I first came home I was even more freaked out with my eyes closed! They wouldn’t close. Now my doctor warned me of this but I was not prepared for how much (see pics). I couldn’t find anyone else’s pics that looked like mine. I thought for sure he took too much skin and I was panicked. I show the progression in the pics. It took a long time for the right eye to close all the way. About 6 weeks. Too long I think. So ultimately I think my doctor was very aggressive. But it does close completely now.
I did get a complication called chemosis. This is fluid on the eye. It is probably because my eye wasn’t closing all the way for so long. It also went away on its own after a couple weeks. It was annoying but not something serious.
My scars are healing up amazingly. Some fading so quickly that I could barely see them at the end of the first week. They fall in the creases nicely too.
Overall, I think my surgery was probably a little more complicated than most, but nothing that was serious or long lasting. And I am happy with the results. So I’m glad I did it.
