Some months ago I became interested in a surgical...
Some months ago I became interested in a surgical procedure to remove what I regarded as excessive facial ageing for a person in their early sixties. My desire for the surgery was reinforced by the fact that I had been offered seniors discounts from the time that I was 58.
I consulted four plastic surgeons including Dr Jeremy Hunt who had previously undertaken some surgery for me. As before, Dr Hunt was generous with his time during the consultation and was pleasant and patient as he dealt with my extensive list of questions and concerns. I valued his explaining what he would not be prepared to do as much as his explanations of what he could do for me. In comparison some other surgeons seemed prepared to undertake whatever procedures I was prepared to pay for, and with hindsight, I realize that some of these would have looked rather overdone and artificial. Jeremy is conservative in his view of what should be done and careful to avoid the bad 'Hollywood' results that excessive surgery generates. In my case it was decided to do a MACS facelift and a necklift.
The pain associated with the procedure was fairly minimal. There was less suffering than is associated with having a bad fluey cold and after six days the bruising was gone and the swelling was not noticeable to people who did not know me well. I felt quite fit and active again. I was meticulous in following Dr Hunt's instructions on daily massage of the scar lines even though it was time consuming for three months. The incisions down the cheeks in front of my ears are now invisible to all except perhaps an experienced medical person. The incisions at the back of the neck have left a little more scarring but these are positioned either in the crease behind the ear or just within the hairline so that they are not noticeable.
It is now six months since the procedure and the result looks very good and certainly natural. I told very few people that I was having the surgery and even immediate family have not asked whether I have had work done. They have however made several comments about how well I am looking. I think the surgery has probably made me look about six years younger than I am yet people who don't know that it has been done do not pick it.
The only downside to the surgery is that I have never been offered a seniors discount since and now have to show the seniors card each time to claim the discount I am entitled to.
