I had scheduled 5 sessions to get rid of sun and acne marks on my face. I had been told IPL boosts cell production & rejuvenates. The first session cleared skin marks. After the 2nd, I noticed I had a weary look & as the days went by my cheeks sunk in, my skin became saggy, wrinkled & lumpy . Beware

Thank you for sharing your experience with the community.  I am sorry to hear this didn't workout for you.

It's criminal that providers are being allowed to advertise that IPL boosts cell production and rejuvenates. It DAMAGES, and the expectation is that then (a) the body will be able to repair the damage, and (b) the body will repair the damage in a way that looks better than the undamaged skin. But of course they can't sell treatments if they tell you IPL causes damage! There are so many things that can go wrong. The damage can end up being too much for the body to be able to repair. Or if something goes wrong with the repair process, the result can look worse than the undamaged skin. The tx depends on your body being able to repair the damage perfectly. I think more work needs to be done on making these devices safer, and more research needs to be done in developing effective treatments for people whose skin has been damaged by these devices. Please make a report to the FDA's adverse event database. The FDA has no idea unless you make a report: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/HowToReport/ucm053074.htm

I will report it. But I just want people to know that they must be very cautious with these treatments. Not everyone knows how to handle them, nor do people know the true outcome. If you have minor skin problems and a thin looking face, don't try this! It damages subcutaneous fat that is almost impossible to replace after a certain age!

How is the pigmentation to your skin comparing first to second treatment?
November 4, 2014
There was no important change in pigmentation between first and second treatment - probably as I'm a brunette. The drastic change was in the shape of my face (which became narrow & sunk in) and in the texture of my skin (orange peal, lumpy). Apparently I was 'treated' with the strongest level of pulses (1200) which was a terrible choice/mistake on behalf of the practitionner.

Hi, I’m so sorry to hear about your experience and I hope things have improved. I also have an indented cheek line that runs diagonally from the inner corner of my eye down my cheek. Has yours improved at all?
