I had mild congenital ptosis on my right eye, 3 mm droopiness and had surgery 2 months ago. In the very first phase of recovery, I was panicked because I felt that something is not right. My right eye was way too higher than left eye. My doctor said it will settle down in a few months. Ok. It really settled down a little but, still there is visible difference both in height and shape. My almond shape eye is now like rounded. And why I still have trouble in closing my eye fully? It won't shut. I tape my eye at nights before sleeping. And when I look down, it's terrible. I'm suffering. If I know that it really will heal in totally 6 months, I'll relieved, but I find it hard to believe it right now... I'd like to know about other experiences that some of you had. Is there anybody else that his/her eye relaxed and shut down completely in not first 2-3 months but in 5-6 months? Is it really possible? My doctor are so sure that my eye will shut normally. He is confident, but I cannot trust or believe him. Could you write me your experiences regarding this issue? Thanks.

Thanks for sharing.  I think it really does take a few more months to totally drop- you can always ask in our Ask A Doctor feature to get some other doctor opinions.  I'd definitely add some pics of your eyes f you do ask so they can see what you are talking about.

Sorry , my comment didn't post correctly . I also have ptsosis repair 2 mm on my left eye after a diving accident . Post op my right eye was lower n left eye too high . The dr said my brain is sending signal to lower my lids that's why my good eye is now lower . Once my muscle relaxes they should even out . It's only been two weeks . Did your even out ?

Actually, my overcorrected eye is lowered 2-3 mm in almost 4 months now. But they are not even. My left eye is ok, not changed but right operated eye is still higher, rounder and won't shut completely. My situation is much more different. Two weeks is too early to judge. Your eye will lower, mine has been.

I just want to add , when I saw my Dr. three days later to have my stitches removed , he said the reason my good eye was lower was when light hits my cornea and its telling my brain my eye lids are too high so its trying to lower them . Since my surgery eye muscle is still tight , my good eye is lowering more . He said it should even out after my muscle relaxes . He never mentioned Herrings law .... Does this scenario make any sense?

have not had the surgery that is why I am reading reviews. I have dystonia (a neurological disorder) which affects my eyes and it is called blepharospasms. I had been getting botox injections every 3 months for 4 years and it was getting to where the botox was not helping as much as it had in the beginning, so I quit for a while and have not had any botox of any kind since September 2014. I was trying to let the botox get out of my system for a while then try it again to see if it was going to help. At first (2010) when I was 1st diagnosed I asked my neurologist if the myectomy/ptosis surgery would help and he gave me a resounding NO. I consulted a very good eye plastic surgeon in the New Orleans area and he said the surgery would help me but he would not do it without my neurologist ok. well I no longer see that neurologist and I am considering the surgery, bur I want to hear from people who have had the surgery for blepharospasms and not just for cosmetic reasons, that being said I am not suggesting that is what you did as I do not know your personal situation. but I wish you the best of luck with your eye surgery and I do hope you have the outcome you were told you would have. God Bless. tpjla

Hi Teresapj, I have the same dystonia . I had the partial myectomy with ptosis repair by one who was supposed to be masters of this procedure and mine was a total disaster. It ruined me professionally, personally, financially. 5 1/2 yrs later I am still trying to find someone who can fix my disaster. Please read my initial post .

Hi . I had ptosis too on my left eye and it has not lowered after 6 months since oct 2014. Its been 6 months since and the doctor mentioned I should wait another 3 months to check if I should release the tension of the left elevator muscle. Its been very disturbing. Any advise?

The same situation. Still they are not even and still cannot fully close it. It has been already 6 months. But the good news is, it really improved in these months. My eye is a little (only a little) better than a few months ago. If there's any improvement, it shows it continues to change. So this time my doctor said you will shut your close fully in 1 year. It's high possibility, I mean. I should wait and see, there's no other change. I suppose your surgery was frontalis sling type, then it's much easier to release the tension. Mine was resection of the muscle, so if not, I will need skin graft which is not likely to be successfull. If you need another surgery, don't be afraid, convince your family that you cannot sleep at night as a normal person, you're unhappy and you have to. Just pick your doctor correctly and go for it. We should have normal eyes, in the end.
