think twice about going to turkey for rhinoplasty

Warning a lot of rambling is possible ——
Quick Note - before you get to the stage of researching doctors and locations please think very long and hard about rhinoplasty or any cosmetic procedure.
( it’s so much more than the physical change - you cannot forget that this nose is a small part of your whole identity - and as you commence this journey we forget all about our poor identity which ends up suffering in some cases. Therefore it’s extremely Important to choose a doctor that understand the importance of identity and is on the same page as you if rhinoplasty is the route you choose - I wish I had understood the concept of identity before entering the world of rhinoplasty - maybe I would have been clearer in communicating the changes I desired or maybe I would not have entered this rhinosplasty world altogether - who knows ?! ).
So I had my rhinoplasty three months ago - now some may say it’s too early to comment - it takes time to get used to the new appearance ( I have heard it all - but the fact is my nose has been shortened and turned up BECAUSE THIS IS THE STANDARD MANOEUVRE PERFORMED BY ALL SURGEONS IN ISTANBUL - it’s a lottery everyone receives the same procedure some are lucky and the results fit their faces whilst others receive a “botched procedure “ - so why does this happen - one reason which I have already mentioned is that everyone receives the same procedure - but hold on ?! that should surely mean everyone should end up with great results - ( the following is a basic fact that I have already learnt from just three months of research - so what boggles my mind is how can the doctors in Istanbul ( all the end results are pretty much the same for all the doctors I have come across ) not realise the same procedure is not going to work for everyone ( now my review to some extent is bias because I am fully aware that surgeons in other countries also follow a similar practice but I only have first hand experience with Turkish doctors ). Okay back to my story- so like I mentioned I had my procedure 3 months ago ( My research into choosing my surgeon WAS ALL WRONG - influenced by social media ( I realise now that I put myself in a very very bad position so to some extent should be grateful I can breathe ). The minute i gained consciousness post surgery I knew something was “off / not right “ how can my nose be sitting at such a angle ( I could not anatomically understand it so messaged the doctor from my hospital bed - and as i waited for a response the sensation of doom filled overtook and I started realising something very wrong had happened ) so I get a message back from my doctor saying - nothing to worry about, ALL my patients have the same worry it’s just the cast making your nose look like that - i believed him 50 percent and asked him I hope my nose was not shortened - and he assured me that’s not the case the nose will come down to A NORMAL POSITION after cast removal and over the next three Months - so I beleived the Doctor ( because I had not done my homework so didn’t have much knowledge about the procedure - till this date I don’t understand how I was so naive thinking I know what I am doing ( in Reality like I have already mentioned I should be grateful that I can breathe because so much more could have gone wrong - to me my life has come to an end and there is no nose worse than mine but somewhere deep down I do still appreciate the fact it could still be worse - don’t want to accept the latter fact but there is some truth to it ). Ahh back to why my rhinoplasty experience went wrong like many others who complain of short and upturned noses - I honestly cannot understand how doctors can make this mistake ( mind boggling ) - in my opinion there are many reasons why the phenomena of short and upturned nose occurs 1. Surgeons in Istanbul beleive every female desires a upturned “piggy” nose
2. They don’t underand the concept of identity or ethnicity
3. They fail to consider the height and facial proportions
4. The Most crucial observation I have made is that Every patient complaining of a upturned and short nose usually has a longer columella - so even if the surgeon innocently only rotated the nose slightly - but due to the long colummella it looks excessive ( to me this is a groundbreaking discovery - I think I have found the answer to why some patients complain of the piggy look whilst others don’t even though the rotation is similar in both patients - maybe my theory is totally flawed but to me it makes a lot of sense )
5. The basic reason is all the doctors in my opinion only know of one nose design and they perform that on every patient.
I think my post is getting a bit long and even my thoughts are getting a bit muddled ( so not sure how clear my message is so far ). I will update my journey and thoughts - as I am looking for a revision to derotate my nose ( as soon as the healing period is over ).

UPDATED FROM riisaa1
Consultation review - not really a consultation but more of a lecture of how my nose is perfect :/
riisaa1October 5, 2019
So I have recently had a consultation with my PS - really tried to explain that my nose has been shortened and rotated up ( it’s a difficult battle because a shortened/ upritated nose is the goal and means a successful procedure in Turkey UNFORTUNATELY ) - the fact is even if only 3mm of caudal septum was resected ( their argument ) - that’s still enough to give a upturned look ( at the end of the day we are talking about your nose which is sitting in the Center of your face and Is not a large structure in the first place ). If 3 mm has been taken off your arm or or some where else maybe the difference would not be as drastic. Firstly, my PS and his team were very happy with my results and thought I was crazy for complaining :/ ( they failed to note the changes were not what were discussed in any shape or form - but is that my fault for putting my trust in someone who produces clone noses ( my research was flawed ) - the reason I chose my surgeon was because he specialises only in noses ( so I thought although he produces upturned and clone noses - surely the only reason for that is - is that the patients are asking for those results - so if I explain what I want he should know what to do because I just want a refinement - but one thing I have realised is that - only a very experienced expert can give you a refinement procedure - it’s actually easier for them to give you a clone nose with over resection than to work around your individual features ( initially my thought process was if they can make such drastic chages - convex to concave / scoopy - surely a conservative procedure will be a walk in the park for any Turkish surgeon - BUT I WAS VERY WRONG BECAUSE they only know of one technique and they apply that to everyone - so if you analyse their result you will see a similar end shape for all their patents with minimal differences ( and if any differences is present it’s due to their original features resisting the “cloning process “ e.g. longer columella - nostril width etc ). 1. If you show a Turkish surgeon results of American procedures ( where 90% of surgeons understand a rhinoplasty is about refinement and not replacing your nose - the Turkish doctors will say it’s a failed procedure - that’s how deluded they are and obviously not updated with the current times where individuality is to be celebrated ). 2. My question is - if my PS understands my concern now ( even though he thinks what I want is not aesthetically acceptable and all his patients have a nose that looks like mine ( upturned nose ) is there any chance he will be able to reverse / create a tip similar to your original ( my reason for this is - He knows what my original Anatomy looked like and has worked on my nose before - so maybe it should be possible for him to relenghten and derotate my nose to the original position ) - from my research I have not come across many people who have had a positive revision with their original doctor. 2.1 my doctor does not have any revisions where he is lenghtening / derotating noses ( that’s a sin in Turkey ) 2.2 but he knows what was resected so maybe he can commit to this sin once 2.3 does anyone follow where I stand - as in he understands what my goal is and is willing to correct the “ perfect nose” 3. My minor fear is if I choose a new doctor - maybe there will be more damage done as he is having to work through scar tissue + structural changes made by first doctor ( my surgical report is very basic and I fear it may not be accurate ).
- I would love to hear what your views are on this matter
- I have 3 names on my mind for a possible revision procedure ( dr enrico, dr Alejandro , Dr Sebastiano 50/50 - all these doctors have done derotation and lenghtening revisions ) - but will need more in person consults to come to the right decision.

a super review, you nailed it to the t. I like the fact that you are challenging the surgeon, that is the way we should do it, as other people challenge us in our job and that is a good thing. Would like to see your photos. Love your comment "he can commit to this sin once".

Thankyou. Getting my point across was just the first part of this journey. The second and most difficult part is trust :(. Currently I don’t feel comfortable posting pictures - but some day I might be in a more comfortable position to do so. ( but if you want to imagine what my nose looks like ( side profile - just search up any Turkish doctor and you will see endless side profiles identical to mine :/)

Hello, thanks for checking up. I still feel my nose look shorter and more round. I am hoping within a year it refines itself and doesnt look "pudgy " or too round. When I see it in person I see a decent nose but in pictures it looks much more round... and I can tell without makeup the changes from my most recent rhino. It was supposed to be more feminine but I still miss my nose before surgery, i think i always will, sadly and honestly. It's hard to admit that but it's how I feel. They say the tip is the last part to define itself ..... they also say within two months u should be able to tell what ur nose will look like.. so who knows really. I just want the tip to be more defined. I will post pictures at the 2 month point ,which is in two weeks.

Hey I am glad you are getting along well ( yes from experience there is a lot of swelling upto the third/ fourt month - the tip will definitely start settling down ). Ahh - missing nose before surgery ( I can relate - I think this phenomenon comes along when the changes have been too drastic). How are you doing now ? Been 3 months now ?? I wil check out your nose pics now <3

Yes to some extent it’s true you can tell what your nose will look like at 2 months - but still with regards to the swelling you will see a lot of improvement.

Hello would you mind being in contact with me because i have the same problem as you and have to find the perfect surgeon now too. Please let me knownif u want to exchange information. Ive been botched by your surgeon too dr EMRE ILHAN

Hello <3 i am sorry to hear :( :( honestly now I am at 5 months and my feelings toward these Turkish surgeons has only progressed in the bitter direction - the more you study the techniques - anatomy of the nose etc etc etc — it becomes apparent how ridiculously UN-TALENTED these nose factory workers really are. If you try to discuss this with any doctor they end up blocking you - they can’t accept any sort of criticism ( and it angers me more when people are telling these doctors their hands are like gold etc etc etc - after their noses have just been through a mold - short and upturned ) it’s honestly extremely sad.

The same thing has happened to me in turkey! I know I’m only 3 weeks post op but I look like a freaking pig! I was very specific about not wanting my nose tip to be rotated. I litterally haven’t been out my house. I haven’t been work. I had a melt down where my family called the paramedics. It feels like my life has been robbed. I’m already planning my revision but I really want to find someone who has derotated and lengthen many noses before. Please let me know if the surgeons your looking at. I’m willing to travel pretty much anywhere as long as I can get my botched nose fixed

I am really really sorry to hear :,,,( this just adds to my anger towards these “ stupid cookie mold users “ I also went through a very rough period with constant panick attacks and isolation . But please beleive me when I say - it does get slightly better overall ( AND your nose will settle down from this current phase - people used to tell me but I would never believe them - but honestly try stay strong with the Belief that you will see some of you again by 4th/5th month - your columella will settle down and make a appearance. The internal structure changes minimally and the tip does not exactly drop ( which I kept hearing from my uneducated doctor ) but your columella will start dropping which will help the situation to some extent.
I have been researching for the past 5 months and I actually can’t believe they are so deluded and actually have surgical degrees to back up their poor cookie cutter work - super baffled ).
I have been looking at the following - Dr. Enrico Robotti
Dr sebastiano scuito
Dr Alejandro nogeira ( I have only had online convos with the doctors not met any of them in person - but all of them have some excellent revisions for lenghtening noses ).
But please try not to think of your nose - it’s one mistake i made I was constantly monitoring my nose ( and still do tbh ) and it can really take you into a dark isolated place — you don’t want to do that to yourself ——- if I could tell myself something 5 months ago I would say go travel for the first three months so I don’t have time to look at my nose and then after that start researching and looking for solutions ( i know it’s impossible not to focus on what has happened to your nose but - just keep telling yourself it will get better as swelling goes and there are some amazing doctors out there that can derotate and lenghten your nose ). A girl I have been talking to who is also going through this said “ think of this as a temporary phase - and very soon you will have your natural nose / something close to natural “ . I think during this phase it’s so important to trick your mind into believing this.
Okay now I feel like I am just rambling - but keep strong because there is a solution to all of this ( the hardest part is just waiting ). Keep me updated and let me know if you want to talk <3

I can’t thank you enough, litterally Iv been reading your comment every time I start to slip and feel like there’s no hope. I just need to find a way to get through the year. I’m freaking my family out. They are all so concerned about me. How did you get on socially? My surgeon went rogue on my nose and completely changed my appearance. I’m scared about what people will say when they see me. I don’t know if I can do it for a whole year :(

There was / is a big change in my social situation. Initially in the first few months I would find public places so overwhelming and I would feel like an alien from an another planet ( had a number of panick attacks - hence spent most Of my time in my room ( in bed )). I also avoided everyone , because I felt guilty and selfish ( they are not the correct terms but can’t think of the right words - but I felt like I took me away from all the peopls that loved me ( almost like I got rid of old me -. Upto now I have not been great socially and not seen most of my friends —- but just this week felt Abit relaxed and enjoyed my weekend ( partly because I avoid over analysing - and partly because i am seeing my old nose ( thank god for thick skin ) ). I thought I would never come out of this awful stage as I literally became mute and a silent observer lost in her own thoughts - I thought that would be my permanent state - but no thank god I am me again these past few days <3 aww I am glad I can be of some help xxxx

Just like to ask add - seeing people and friends definitely helps - because it means you are not focusing on your nose a side much — even now if I sit and start anatlysing my nose I will get upset that my nose is short and turns up ( but if I compare pictures from earlier months to now I can see how swelling makes it a lot worse ). So I try to compare my now situation to month 2 or 3 - to make myself feel better ( but if I was to compare to my original nose I would be upset all over again ). I would say keep massaging - I try to massage as much as I can in the hope that If and when I go for a lenghtening / derotation procedure the skin will be in a good condition and not overly limited my skin elasticity etc.
