Almost 1 year post op: felt great and in really good hands

ORIGINAL POST

Almost a Year Post Op

WORTH IT
I wanted to give a review after all was said and done, and after I had really healed from surgeries. I had a breast augmentation and then a few months later, a tummy tuck. So here I am, almost a year post op to post my review! Overall, I am happy with my results. I have no regrets. First of all, I live out of state so my first consultation with Dr. Fryer was virtual. I was blown away by how thoroughly he explained the procedures I wanted (tummy tuck and breast aug) and didn't rush at all answering my questions. I had been to a few other consultations and he was by far the best. I will say I didn't love that he immediately assumed what I wanted for a breast augmentation--he assumed I wanted something discreet that no one would know about, when in reality, I don't care what other people think--I had a size and look in mind and I was going to get what made me happy! Anyway, the ladies in the office were very accommodating, kind, and professional. With traveling from out of state, they gave me all the info I needed to make it as smooth as possible. I appreciated how Dr. Fryer educated me about the profiles and sizes and told me how he measured which profile he would choose to fit my frame. I was able to compare it with what other surgeons had told me and I felt confident that he chose the right profile for me (UHP). However, during my pre-op, he suggested a maximum of 350cc. I had been researching for a long time and pretty much had my heart set on around 450cc, so I felt disappointed, especially when I tried on the implants. I knew in my gut I wouldn't be happy with that look. My husband helped me speak up (I have a hard time with that sometimes) and Dr. Fryer kindly warned me of increased risks of going bigger, but was willing to do what I wanted (455cc) and we both signed off for it. I felt confident it would be fine. Especially because other surgeons had recommended that size for me anyhow, and it's not like I was going up a ridiculous amount, imo. Anyway, Dr. Fryer personally called me to check on me later that night and recovery went really well. Aftercare was great and everything was quite straight forward. I had mixed feelings about wearing the victoria secret bra he recommended, but every surgeon has their own recommendations and I followed his instructions. Now, cosmetic surgery is a funny thing. It will make you analyze your body in ways you never have before! I had never noticed just how high my nipples are, naturally. (I DID notice that my nipples nearly popped out of all my bras all my life but didn't really think anything of it!) So much so that without a bra, it looks like I have no upper pole fullness because my nipples point upward and are near the top of the implant. At times during my recovery, I was very worried they had bottomed out or something. But the more that time goes on, the more I'm convinced that it's just my anatomy. Dr. Fryer never specifically told me this was my anatomy, this is just what I have gathered. I actually plan to ask him about it because I am a curious soul who just wants to understand the "why" for everything! All in all I love having boobs! My right side scar is invisible now, at 15 months post op! My left side is still visible.

Now, for my tummy tuck, I'm 11 months post op: this is a huge recovery! Many ups and downs emotionally, even though my recovery was very smooth. Again, Dr. Fryer called me personally to check on me.
My only complaint is that on the paperwork they sent me home with, it specified for the first week to stay hunched over. I follow all the rules, lol, and it KILLED my back to walk like that but I didn't want to mess anything up, so I did it. Well, when I went to my 1 week post op appointment I was SO hunched over, like a hunchback old lady. The nurse was low key horrified and told me I needed to start standing up straighter. I thought, "then the paperwork needs to be updated because I followed it to a T!" Haha. Anyhow, after that, recovery went even smoother. But with the meds that Dr. Fryer gave me and the precautions he took for preventing blood clots, I felt great and in really good hands. I was able to only need 1 drain thankfully and it was taken out after 1 week. I really wasn't sure what to expect for my new belly button because mine was SO stretched out from 4 pregnancies. I couldn't even remember what my belly button looked like, I figured whatever he gave me would be better. At first, with all the swelling, my belly button was horribly off center and I was trying not to freak out until full healing but also still nervous about it. Anyway, in the end, my belly button is naturally a little off center (this Dr. Fryer did tell me this, although I have to admit I am curious how the belly button position works and if it can be affected during surgery another one of my "how? Why?" burning questions)...however, it is not anywhere near as noticeable as it was in the beginning and now that I scrutinize everyone's belly buttons, I notice that many are naturally off center. It no longer bothers me because I look fantastic. I'm thrilled that I don't have an unslightly red ring around my belly button like others I have seen, so I think his technique is special somehow. I'm very happy with my scar placement, although now that the swelling has gone, I notice one end has a VERY SLIGHT dog ear. I mean, miniscule. I'm not sure it even counts. I will address it when I send them my 1 yr updated photos. If I didn't live across the country, I would gladly him "fix" it, but since I'm so far away it's probably not worth it and I can barely even notice it. I have seen that dog ear removal is super easy and quick and painless.
The Minky blankets were a nice touch, I love them!

I will say after my initial follow up appointments, I did feel a little lost. Like, I guess I wanted them to check on me? But I think it's because I moved across the country just 2 weeks after my tummy tuck, so it's not like I would be coming in for after photos. However, they did give me the nurses e-mail where I could send any photos and questions and I was even able to speak with Dr. Fryer when I was having an emotional breakdown about my belly button placement, lol. It seems all very insignificant and silly now but the emotional roller coaster is real! So anyway, even though they probably won't be hunting me down for my 1 yr post op photos, I'm going to send them! Lol.
This is already a novel, but I just want to say how happy I am that I did this for me. For the tummy tuck, it was mostly about fixing the hernia for me. The aesthetic was a bonus. Because of the surgery, now I am back to the fitness level I'm happy with, doing the things that I love. I was VERY slow and intentional about getting back into exercise and used Get Mom Strong program as if I was postpartum. It's just what your pelvic floor needs!

Thank you for taking the time to post all of this information. I am so glad your husband spoke up for you to get the size you wanted, not what the doctor thought you should have. I know the docs mean well, but we know what we want. LOL! (You remind me of myself, so I really enjoyed this!) And...you look wonderful! I look forward to viewing any more pics you post.
