Starting my Journey...

WORTH IT
I am 47 years old, married and have two daughters, ages 16 and 12. For quite a while now I have contemplated having a tummy tuck and I have finally worked up the nerve to start this journey. For both my pregnancies, I gained at least 50 lbs. However, I did not quite manage to lose what I could have after my second daughter was born. Right now, I weigh about 176 and have started to eat better, go to the gym. I found a surgeon that I have a consult with tomorrow (Dr. Joshua Zuckerman) so I am excited and nervous about how it will go. Will I be a candidate? For the most part, I'd like to think that I was healthy aside from being somewhat overweight. I've had a c-section, a breast reduction and my gallbladder removed and thankfully all went well. I do however I have a hiatal hernia so I do not know how that will affect whether or not the TT can be done. I've been reading so many reviews and other journies here on Realself so that has been helpful. Let's see how tomorrow goes.

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! I also had my TT at 47 after 3 kids where I gained 50lbs with each. Took me 9 months to put the weight on, took me 9 months to get the weight off each time. Left me with a lax tummy, even though I work out. I also had a BA in 2015, (18 months before my TT) so now as 49 my mommy makeover is complete and I only wish I could have done it sooner!!!! Best decision everrr!!! I wish you luck on your consult.. oh, ai also have a mild hiatal hernia ... no issues from TT. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have!

Thank you so much for your reply. My main reason for this surgery is that excess skin that hangs because nothing I do will get rid of it. At my consult yesterday the surgeon said the hiatal hernia should not be problematic the only thing is that once I get the surgery my reflux symptoms may get a little worse for a bit because of the tightening of the abs. Did that happen to you?

Had my consult today and really liked the surgeon. He took his time with me explaining everything and answered all my questions. He made me feel very comfortable and confident in what he does. I am planning on losing just a couple of more pounds so that the result will be even better. Keeping my fingers crossed, if all goes well I plan on booking an appointment for sometime in June or July.

Surgery date booked!

Today I booked my surgery. To say that I am nervous, excited, scared and everything else in between is an understatement. But I really feel confident with my surgeon and his abilities to help me. I am doing this for me. I am always the one taking care of everyone else and putting others before me. That is just me, my nature. This is a gift to myself. Am I having thoughts about perhaps I’m being vain, selfish as I have two daughters that need their mother? Yes I am having these thoughts but at the same time I tell myself that I got this, I will be ok and everything will be good. My best friend is so awesome, she tells me “we only have one life to live, why not do what we really want and what makes us happy”? So here I am, surgery scheduled for late June. I am now going to try and lose some weight and try to build my stamina. I am 5’5-5’6, weigh 175. Trying to lose at least 10-15 lbs before surgery.

Thank you so much. I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong bc I don’t seem to be getting comments or perhaps my posts are just being skipped. A little extra support would be nice but I’m doing this nonetheless and will continue to post my progress.

You'll soon get more comments than u can keep up with. What are you doing to prepare? If you check out my journey, you'll see all the stuff I bought before surgery to be ready for the big day. I did my MM in 2 steps... my BA first, then saved more money and my TT was 18 months later. By far the BEST thing I have ever done for myself aside from my husband and kids of course. My best advice is to take verrry good care of this gift afterward. Eating clean and exercise will make sure your TT lasts forever!

Thank you for your advice! As of now, I have been really working on trying to lose a couple of pounds, eating much better and being mindful not to eat things that I really shouldn't. I've been looking at the different compression garments sold online as I know I will need more than one. Not really sure which is better. I know that I will be wearing one right after surgery, but from what I have read, there are different stages.

YES!! We have 1 life to live and as wives and mothers we’re always putting the needs of those we love before our own. You deserve to be happy too, you deserve this mama. Best of luck, I’ll be following your story.

Thank you @sprinkles80! I’m so nervous, though. I’m jut trying to keep focused on the end result. Just started the Keto way of eating to see if it helps me lose some weight. Current feeling the Keto headache. Carbs is my weakness especially breads! With this diet, carbs are very limited so it’s really a switch for me. Ahhh positive vibes!

I used to do Keto, it WILL help you lose weight. But yes, I love carbs too so it proved too difficult for me to continue LOL However, there were foods I loved during Keto: keto homemade broccoli cheese soup, Caesar salad with chicken & bacon, protein style burgers with avocado. So happy you’re getting your surgery! I had my lift & augmentation in January, I wish I had another $10k for the tummy tuck.

Oh wow! I’m looking at recipes and made Keto pancakes this morning. They weren’t bad but tasted like eggs. I’ll keep looking and trying different recipes. Those that you mention sound really good.
