There is hope for those with beta thalassemia!!!

I can’t believe it’s been 2 years!!! I’m long over due with an update…I’m including my before and some after photos (I had to blur out some of my very distinctive tattoos). I happen to stumble across an email from a comment on one of my old post and logged in to find so many dolls that are running into the same problem I experienced with my beta thalassemia trait! There just not enough information on this platform for dolls like myself and what I discovered to be so many like me! Many of you who have this condition only found out you had it through starting your surgery journey! I’ve had many reach out due to frustration with trying to get their hemoglobin up! Truth is the regimen that worked for me might not work for you! Please consult a hematologist! My pre op optimization was done by my Hematologist! I don’t want to put out information as to what all we did because it was all supervised under her care and results are atypical. I’ve known I had this condition long before I was to have surgery therefore it wasn’t a surprise to me. Once I got my diagnosis over 16 years ago I’ve seen a hematologist since. My treatment was not all things you can just go and buy over the counter but I will say it included B-12 injections given to me by my doctor and my blood worked was monitored. Many dolls are becoming frustrated and losing hope that they might not get surgery but, understand a denial is just a delay! There is a doctor out there who will work with your condition you just have to find the right one like my doctor explained to me. Keep in mind these are ELECTED procedures and every surgeon has their “magic number” as to where they want your hemoglobin to be. Many will shy away from you because of this condition however do not be discouraged! My doctor sat me down and simply stated, plastic surgeons do not specialize in blood disorders so becoming frustrated because they don’t understand your condition will just make you frustrated! It’s one of those “we have the right to refuse service” type of situations! My last advice to all future dolls is DO NOT GIVE UP! There is a doctor for you, you just have to find the one who understands! Best of luck to all those on this journey…because I’m back on it again as well I have a consultation with another surgeon here in Houston just for some fine tweaking (back and chin lipo and possible ab etching) tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it goes.

FINALLY, after months and months of trial and error...Oct 14th I fly out! So many emotions, nervous and excited at the same time. I will add before and after pictures on post-op day :)

Today I had my appt for the results of my clearance labs and of course that’s when the anxiety kicks in for me! To my surprise my hbg was at 11.6! I couldn’t believe it. I’ve struggled staying in the 10’s since I started this journey dealing with my beta thal trait. My doctor even asked what did you do?!? I wanted to cry because I couldn’t believe the changes I made actually worked. So for now I’m good to go, I’ll do one last CBC just to make sure I’m good before I prepare to fly out to Miami to become a MEHIO DOLL on OCT 15th!!!
