Nice office and staff, I was unpleased with results

ORIGINAL POST

Aesthetically Unpleasing Results, but Office Staff Are Very Nice!

Dr. Gould and his staff are great - they are kind, responsive and his office is very well run. However, when you visit a plastic surgeon you want nice looking results. Dr. Gould did not provide aesthetically pleasing results. Huge purple scar almost a year and a half out and a belly button that partially sticks out, when it didn't before (and you can see the scar around it). He is a very smart surgeon, kind, and he did tighten the abdominal wall. However, usually plastic surgeons are very skilled at minimizing scars and I did not experience this result with Dr. Gould. Because of the appearance of my scar, I am looking for a revision. Would not recommend, based on my personal results.

Response from Dr. Gould:
Thanks for bringing your concerns to our attention. The satisfaction of all of our patients is important to us. Our response here is limited due to HIPAA Privacy regulations, but we encourage you to contact us directly : We are sorry you feel that your results are not what you hoped for with regards to SCAR formation after surgery. We consult with all our patients and warn them that some of wound healing is genetic and is out of our hands in terms of the ultimate result. This language is included in ALL CONSENT forms. The good news is that according to your post you are still in the healing phase so regardless of intervention the scar will continue to improve. You mentioned the color is purple- that means there is still new blood supply in the region helping remodel the scar and it will go improve on its own. Sometimes scars have brown color and we typically treat those with lasers and topical medicines to lighten them. The GOOD news is this! With all patients we offer interventions to improve the scar color and texture. These include lasers, topical medications and microneedling. In some cases, we offer scar revision surgery as well, to remove the scar and get a smoother result. However usually we wait until the signs of physiologic healing are done otherwise its more risky that you could have a worse result not a better one. Regardless, Dr Gould would love to have you come in any time for all of these potential interventions free of charge. Our policy with regards to scar revision is this - if Dr Gould agrees revision is warranted and will make it look better - there is no fee for surgeon for these procedures, but if we do it asleep in the OR there may be a small fee for anesthesia and for the use of the OR. If it can be done awake there may be a minor fee for the use of the minor procedure room. We hope these comments help - and as always happy to see you back in the office any time! Best Dr Gould and Team
