3 weeks post-op and have been dealing with a necrotic lesion

ORIGINAL POST

Tummy Tuck Necrosis

Lgold2000

I am a femal, mid 30s, healthy non-smoker. Immediately after my procedure my doctor started me on Nitro-bid to the area below my belly button. He informed me that I would get some unusual bruising and it was crucial I use the cream 3xdaily. The area became very purple and after about a week of using the nitrobid it was getting necrotic. I am now 3 weeks post-op and have been dealing with a necrotic lesion.

I have been following up with my surgeon and he is baffled to why this happened to me as well. As mentioned, i am not a smoker nor am i a diabetic.

I am currently applying silvadene 2-3 times a day and limit my activity. My surgeon says the healing is progressing in the right direction but I am in constant pain and unaware of what it will look like next.

The plan is for the new skin to regenerate and then have a revision. Is anyone here experienced with the timeline it take to heal from this?

Hello, my tummy-tuck w/liposuction was on 01/23/2023 (34 days)
I too have a very similar necrotic lesion, have been applying Nitro-Bid - to be honest it feels like it is getting worse! Those white-ish areas around the necrosis… I can only describe as a big “gash” and I just don’t see how this whole thing will close back. I still have stitches in my belly-button. Everything else is ok and I’m happy with how I look with my clothes on, but this thing is really freaking me out at this point and limiting how I move - I cannot pick up things that are heavier than 3 lbs because it hurts a bit but mostly because I am afraid the whole thing will burst open!
My doctor doesn’t appear to be concerned by this, he is 3 hours away and I send him photos every week…
I’m going to post this again in Q&A so I can add photos.

MJan2023. Good luck with everything. My doctor was seeing me very often in his office and switched me over to Silvadene to put on that wound. Slowly the necrotic tissue started to retract and slough off. The skin detached and I was left with an open wound. He eventually took me to surgery, cleaned out/cut the black tissue and basically did another tummy tuck. I’m still in a girdles with bandages but I will post and update.

I had same and it took about 8 months to fully close. My revision is not great and my belly button seems very low. Good luck!

My update is that I’m back to th very beginning. My revision showed that it as failing within three days. The new incision site became necrotic and infected. I had no choice but to find a wound care clinic on my own. Inam doing hyperbaric oxygen therapy and had my wound cultured to show MRSA. I am on aggressive antibiotics and there is talk of a wound vac also. The anxiety and depression this has caused is indescribable.

This photo is 1 month post-op. Necrotic tissue has sloughed off. Very painful. As of today, the surgeon has cleaned out all the dead tissue and closed the wound. I will update the results of the 2nd operation once i am able.
