What I wish I knew
WORTH IT
Week 4–I’m posting this update for other moms and hope it helps someone. I was mentally prepared for soreness and muscular pain and up steadily get better week to week. Not so. The first week I was actually more numb and had pain meds. After 10 days I had no more refills on pain meds and dr wanted me to stop taking. I had more support with childcare and meals week 1, and less weeks 2 and 3. Weeks 2 and 3 were excruciating with no pain meds and lots of skin and nerve pain all over my torso as nerves come back to life. I was not prepared and wish I had known it would be this different type of burning, itching pain that was actually worse than the first week. Also, the lymphatic massages made me extremely sore and felt like a setback—be prepared to wake up the next day feeling bruised!

I had a tummy tuck and breast lift and lipo after having 3 kids in 5 years. I lost a lot of weight, worked out incessantly and just couldn’t get rid of my c section tummy. I was extremely nervous about having surgery because I had very traumatic emergency c sections. I’ve also had horrible experiences with doctors and was just hesitant to go through with it. Dr Burns has genuinely been the most caring, responsive and kind doctor I have ever encountered in 30 years. I have never met someone who is so thoughtful and really listens while still being results driven. My first two consults I thought maybe it was fake, I know sounds ridiculous, but after going through surgery I can attest he is actually just a very nice person. His nurses are very kind and provide good customer service. I stayed in his recovery center for two nights and it was a good experience—they do require an adult to stay with you which can be hard to coordinate. But dr burns checked on me personally twice a day while I was there. I have had no complications, I’m one week out and recovery has been painful but they provided a lot of information about how to prepare. It would be better to be in a place without young kids for 5-7 days but it was not possible for me.

At one week out, I’m still swollen, but stomach looks very flat, breasts are up high, symmetrical, etc. excited to see how everything heals.
