My Tummy Tuck Journey: Why I Chose Dr. Parker

WORTH IT
As a 49-year-old woman and mother of two, I decided it was time to do something for myself and feel more like me again.

I am also an educator and a fitness instructor, so I naturally like to learn. I wanted to understand not only what would be done on the outside, but also what was being done internally to create the result. For me, the surgical technique was just as important as the aesthetic outcome.

After researching my options, I chose Dr. Paul Parker and The Parker Center. I was particularly impressed by his approach to abdominoplasty and the attention he gives to the underlying abdominal wall, not just the skin.

My procedure was a lipoabdominoplasty. According to my operative report, Dr. Parker performed liposuction of the upper and lateral abdomen, removed excess lower-abdominal skin, and repaired my diastasis recti in three layers. My diastasis measured 3 cm at its widest point. He also performed additional fascial tightening along the abdominal wall, including the linea alba, linea semilunaris, and lower abdomen.

He also specifically addressed the mons area by thinning the tissue and securing the abdominal flap toward the mons area, along with suprapubic sutures to help maintain a low scar. As someone who teaches fitness and understands the importance of the core, I really appreciate that the procedure addressed the abdominal wall from the inside rather than focusing solely on what could be seen externally.

And then there is the recovery.

I honestly expected much more pain.

My pain level has been about 1 out of 10 so far. The main discomfort I experienced during the first week was in my lower back because I had to walk slightly hunched over. Interestingly, the discomfort was primarily when I was walking. When I sat down or lay down, it went away.

My recovery so far has been much easier than I anticipated, and I am extremely happy with my experience and my results at this stage. I know I am still healing and that the final result will continue to evolve, but I am already very pleased with what I see.

One of the reasons I wanted to write this review is because I am an educator. I believe information empowers people. When I was researching this procedure, I wanted to understand the why behind the techniques—not simply see before-and-after pictures.

I also want other women, especially women who have had children and may feel that they have lost a little bit of themselves physically, to know that it is okay to do something for yourself. For me, this wasn’t about trying to become someone else. It was about feeling like myself again.

I am so grateful for the care I have received and for the work Dr. Parker has done. As a woman, a mother, an educator, and a fitness instructor, I appreciate both the artistry of the result and the surgical technique behind it.

I am still on my healing journey, but so far, I couldn’t be happier with my decision.
