Great Experience Until....

I had a package called the Royal Lower Body lift with Dr. Cardenas on 2/12/19. This package includes a tummy tuck, pelvic lift, liposuction on love handles and fat transfer to buttocks. Dr, Cardenas was considerably more pricey than other surgeons in the area, but I decided to go with her based on her reputation for safety. My procedure and stay at the recovery house were fine, however, I ended up in the intensive care unit of my local hospital a week after my return home with a very bad MRSA infection, which the doctors here are sure I contracted in Mexico. I was doubtful until I found another patient of Dr. Cardenas who had surgery with her in August of 2018 who contracted an even worse MRSA infection than I did and ended up having two surgeries to get rid of the infection. Dr. Cardenas is obviously not the hygienic safe surgeon she portrays herself as, and I would encourage you to take my experience and that of this other patient and consider your possible potential deadly outcome of having surgery with her. I am posting a picture of one of my drains right after I came home...this was sent to Dr. Cardenas and I was to,d there was no cause for alarm when you can clearly see that the opening is infected. This is a real experience. Please, consider this possibility, it can happen to anyone if it happened to the two of us. Full disclaimer—I requested a 50% refund of my fees paid to the doctor to help cover my $5,000 out of pocket maximum on my health insurance plan here in the states, as my hospital bill is over $100,000, however, she has refused to return any of my funds.

I’m sorry this happened to you, it’s horrible you had to endure such pain and MRSA. I would take her to court, you trusted her with your safety and life. She probably didn’t/don’t use sterile/new surgical instruments smh. I wish you a speedy recovery and all the best!!

Hi...I’m so sorry this happened!! I’m a past patient of dr cardenas as well...I was soooo disheartened to hear her response to your situation!! Are you fully recovered? Do you think this affected your end results at all?

So thankful your insurance is covering this infection even though the surgery was cosmetic. This is my biggest fear.

I am sooo sorry this happened to you!! It’s the WORST when you put your trust in a doctor and facility and in exchange, get a life threatening infection! I am writing from first hand experience. Although I did not MRSA, I still got bad bacteria and also had to be hospitalized with bills up to $90,000!! I say to anyone getting surgery to do the procedures in a hospital setting. It’s still a risk, however, the chances of non operative bacteria is better! - Be sure to have your wound care follow up treatment as per your primary care. You will get through this! Blessings

I'm sorry to hear about your infection.
I had my surgery on 1/25/19 and everything is fine.

My sister had a lower body lift also. She chose a dr. that operated out of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota and she almost died from her infection.
Infections can happen anywhere.
Again I'm sorry you had it happen to you.

Infections can happen anywhere, however, they are much more common in a foreign country, and Tijuana is notorious for having a very bad outbreak right now. There have been several news articles written about it. You might be fine, and the five other people who were there at the same time as I was are also fine, however, there have been two people who contracted very deadly, antibiotic resistant infections from this surgeon in the past six months -- which cannot be ignored in terms of statistics. In addition, contracting an infection in the states is covered by your insurance, and you have legal recourse, unlike in a foreign country where I am now out the cost of the surgery as well as the $40k in critical care bills that I have.

Again, many people have been fine utilizing Dr. Cardenas, however, the facts cannot be ignored that you are putting yourself at higher risk by choosing her as a surgeon based on the demonstrated statistics.

Dr Cardenas tests her patients for MRSA. So I find it hard to believe it happened under her care

Almost died from contracted infection

Wasorry19

I contracted a MRSA infection and almost died. I was the second patient in six months to have that happen. Dr. Cardenas refused to take any responsibility or help with my medical expenses, when it is obvious I got the infection while under her treatment. Remember...I was the second patient in six months that happened to, do you really want to risk it?

She seems to have multiple cases like yours yet she takes no responsibility. I don’t even think she’s a board certified plastic surgeon.

She seems to have issues with serious patient infections, and these are only what’s getting shared online. Think of how many other serious problems aren’t publicly reported. Thank you for sharing and protecting others.
