Brazilian abdominoplasty Mr Van Niekerk - feeling very nervous

ORIGINAL POST

Brazilian Adominoplasty Mr Van Niekirk

SuziQe2
So I’m booked in on Friday 6th November for Brazilian adominoplasty with Mr Van Niekirk in London. Feeling very nervous, especially with the Covid situation. Having the procedure to repair my diastasis recti and remove the shelf! I want back what is rightfully mine after 3 children and 3 c-sections! I’ve booked in to the hospital for an overnight stay but wondering if I will need this? What have other people’s experiences been? Has anyone wished they had/hadn’t stayed overnight?

I am on day 4 PO and very discouraged. I feel
Bigger than before and it’s painful. Really painful. Be easy to do nothing for a week.

Sorry to hear that. How are you today? I’ve heard people say they feel they turn a corner after day 5...

I would definitely recommend staying overnight. I had a tummy tuck with no lipo or muscle repair last November and stayed 2 nights. I'm now 3 days post revision and stayed one night. It's good to have someone on hand to help with going to the loo and to give pain relief etc.

I have my tummy tuck, hernia repair, diastasis recti repair and a breast augmentation on November 6th! I am not stay overnight unless I have a cardiac issue.

I had my tt with lipo and muscle repair on 27th October. I was glad to go home after and be comfortable in my own space. No overnight stay for me.

It is major surgery so expect to be uncomfortable and in some pain for up to a week. That’s perfectly normal. After day 5 I started yo break through. I never felt in lots of pain though, just uncomfortable.
Swelling is unavoidable. Everyone who has TT swells and that is why you need to use the compression garments. Swelling can come and go for weeks/months.
I had lymphatic drainage massages before this lockdown to help reduce swelling. Check the MLD website for registered professionals.
Don’t worry you’l feel better soon enough. I’m 12 days post op and went for a little walk yesterday, not taking any painkillers anymore etc

2 weeks post op

It’s just over two weeks since my op (Brazilian abdominoplasty with repair of diastasis recti) and I’m doing okay! I’ve found the recovery tough at times, especially the first few days. Sleeping on my back has been difficult and I developed quite severe back pain by day 7. I’m taking some stronger anti-inflammatories and feeling more comfortable now. The pain is much less now but I still feel very low on energy.
However, I’m absolutely thrilled with the results so far and would do it all again for sure! I’ve uploaded some pictures which I took a couple of days ago and I can’t believe how great I look so early on in my recovery. I’m still very swollen, especially towards the end of the day, and my stomach is very hard. My scar is very neat and so far is healing really well. I’m also really pleased with my belly button.
Mr Van Nierkirk is an excellent surgeon and has taken great care of me to achieve the best results. He had a reputation for being a perfectionist and he certainly lived up to this for me. I cannot recommend him enough! I’m so grateful to him for helping to get a bit of me back and starting to feel confident about my body once again. I also already feel stronger and more stable in my core and cannot wait until I can start to exercise again so I can tone the rest of my body up to match my new stomach!

Wow that is a huge difference! You look incredible, well worth it! You do not look at all swollen. Is it due to being hunched that your back became so bad at day 7?

Thank you for your positive comments. I think the back pain is due to a number of different things including changes in posture. I also found sleeping on my back and in a partial upright position very uncomfortable which didn’t help. I also have a long term back condition which will also have had an impact and perhaps why it may be worse for me than others. I hope that helps :)
