Big regret - left with a bulge above my belly button

ORIGINAL POST

Big Regret

I’ve always wanted a TT to feel confident and boost my self esteem. I finally had my procedure on April 2019. After being home a few days, I noticed a buldge above my belly button. I went in for my follow up and asked about it, I was told I was just “swollen”. I expressed my concerns to both the nurse(s) and Dr Lawton at each follow up but was continuously told it would “take time for it to go away”. January 2021, I made an appointment to see Dr Lawton to specifically express my concerns at which time I was referred to a specialist to see if maybe I had a hernia (which I knew I didn't). The specialist sent me for Xrays (which i got charged my deductible). Once i got the results I picked them up and took to Dr Lawton. I had no hernia. Dr Lawton then scheduled me for a surgery revision on March of 2021. Once again, after a couple days, I noticed the same buldge but in a different spot. And again, I was told it would go away.

In Oct 2021 I went on a trip with friends and was wearing a bathing suit, my friend (concerned) asked if I was ok as she noticed the bulge, her immediate reaction was ask if I had a hernia. I was so embarrassed due my personal insecurities and felt I was back at square one. Upon my return, I scheduled an appt with Lawton and I was told "You look fine,  you’re flat, you’ll be tender for years". My trust was shattered and I felt defeated. Still paying what I owed, I walked out in tears. My insecurities continue, I continue to wear loose clothing, and im constantly self conscious of my appearance. I finally scheduled myself an appt with another Dr to get help get this fixed, and hopefully putting this botched nightmare behind me.

Response from Dr. Lawton:
The umbilicus is a structural remnant of the umbilical vein that traverses the abdominal wall. The plication stitch ends above and begin again below the the umbilical stalk. Additionally, he cytokine cascade is involved in swelling. Wound healing fluid occupies the interstitial space between the skin and abdominal wall until the wound is completely healed. It can take this process takes 18 months or more for full resolution. So yes, this soon after surgery, it is swelling.
