Surgery is all done

ORIGINAL POST

The beginning

Fabulous2300
Today was my pre-op appointment. They provided me with my recovery instructions, lit of items I will need, pain medication and antibiotics. My PS also discussed the procedure with me and what he will be doing. They took measurements and the dreaded “before” pictures. My surgery is scheduled for April 11th and I will be having multiple hernia repairs, muscle repair, lipo of my waist and a tummy tuck. I’m so nervous for the recovery and the pain after which I did discuss with the doctor. I have total trust in my PS and General Surgeon that will be preforming all of my procedures. Part of the reason I’m so nervous is because I’m a nurse and don’t want to be down for to long and unable to care for my patients properly. And because of my 5 kiddos (almost 1, 6, 14, 15 and 16) and needing to rely so heavily on others to help me during my recovery when I’m not at all use to that. Part of the reason I have a little extra “me” is from these beautiful babes who ranged from 8lbs 2 oz to 9 lbs. Mentally and emotionally it’s been difficult getting asked daily “when I’m due.” Most days I smile and laugh it off in front of co-workers, patients and families but I always end up finding a vacant place to just cry it out because it really does start taking its toll on you. I’m looking forward to starting this new chapter and gaining some confidence in my body. My plan is to stay as positive and open minded as possible through this journey to the best of my ability.
History: I’ve always been very fit and active and had to stop a few months ago due to my hernias and the pain they’ve been causing. I recently started trying to eat healthier but lord is that difficult because I love all things sweet. My pre-pregnancy weight before my last daughter was 145 lbs and now I range from 167-171 lbs and I’m about 5 ft 3 in.

Surgery is all done

Fabulous2300

Well I had my surgery yesterday 4/11. It ended up taking 5 +hours with my 3 large hernia repairs, muscle repair and Abdominoplasty. I’m in the hospital overnight for pain management and some assistance getting back in bed. Happy I am here because this recovery is no joke. My first time getting out of bed to pee yesterday was rough and I ended up needing oxycodone and then IV dilaudid. Coughing sucks for sure and I threw up twice now (probably from meds and pain). Well off to doze some more while I still can. No after pictures yet just one prior to surgery and some of my drains

Post op day 1

Fabulous2300

I was getting myself up to go to the bathroom all night and emptying my drains alone. The intense pain hit me around 5 am and I broke down crying (which hurt like hell) until I got 0.5 mg of Dilaudid because the Oxycodone 5 mg didn’t touch me. I also threw up twice which was horrible but it didn’t feel good. During my surgery yesterday I broke out in a rash and hives all over and freaked the surgeon out. They gave me Benadryl and Steroids and it cleared up. Now I have red and burning eyelids and cheeks from tape used to keep my eyes closed so they didn’t dry out. I’m debating on staying in the hospital another day depending on my pain management later. I have no regrets but this recovery has been rough so far. Best wishes everyone
