Abdominoplasty with Hernia Repair and Lipo
After 3 kids (1 single and twins) I decided it was time to fix my rectis distasis, hernia and remove that extra skin! I’m a runner and the constant need to wear high waisted compression was getting to be too much. My hernia would slip out if on my side in bed and I’d have to put it back in. I was ready to look better and feel better!
I had a consultation in early July and surgery on August 12. Everything went great, my hernia was repaired, my abdomen wall was sewn back together, the excess skin was removed and some lipo was done on my flanks. I went home that night. The next day I was in horrendous pain. Dr. Greens office talked to my husband on the phone and switched up my pain management and saw me the following day to make sure everything was ok. Between the pain, difficulty fully emptying my bladder (it dribbles out after a catheter which sucks) and my first bowel movement, the first few days were rough.
After about a week I started feeling much better and could move around move. I returned to work after 2 1/2 weeks. FYI coughing, sneezing and laughing are the worst for quite some time!!!!
By week 6 I could sleep in bed (I’d been in a chair) and on my sides pretty comfortably. I’m going to start running and weight lifting slowly but unfortunately I’ve caught a cold and am too exhausted after work. My scar looks great (I plan to tattoo over it anyways) and I’m not wearing compression anymore (there’s no noticeable difference in swelling vs when I wear and it don’t). My stomach is rather hard right above my belly button, around it and below it but Dr. Green said it’s normal and should soften over time.
Dr. Green has been great and did an awesome job. I definitely made the right choice. I would have liked more detailed post op instructions (such as sleeping options, restrictions, compression suggestions, etc but I was able to find most of the information myself). Some were given but they were very vague. Overall, great experience.
Will continue to update.
