Knees Down AND Knees Up - I'm beyond happy

UPDATED FROM Blinger76

Upper Legs Complete - Full leg transformation!

WORTH IT
I had my knees down surgery in Sept 2019, and my knees up surgery in Feb 2022 - and my legs now look the way I feel they should.
All the hard work of staying fit and exercising now has results I can see, and not just when I'm lying down with my legs up so gravity pulls all the fat down (you know what I mean). I can see my leg shape, and love what I see.
The process, experience, and recovery was different for each surgery, but I am grateful to have done them both. Feel free to message me with any questions!

ORIGINAL POST

Knees Down.

I never wore shorts because my knees were fat, covered and looked like a sagging blanket. My calves would bruise easily and were always tender. There was no way I could wear skinny anything or even straight leg jeans. My calves were almost 17" around so boots were hard to find.
So I booked the knees down procedure. It was $1X,XXX after the exchange rate and required 48hr total time with travel included.
The procedure was not awesome, but well worth it. Dr Su was hilarious and his nurse Essence was so calm and lovely. The freezing was uncomfortable, but the staff are fast. There were zingers every so often that felt like a big electric shock - but they were over just as fast. Remember you are still frozen for a few hours after so rest!
The first 24hr after I was sore, so if you are flying home, bring help. Also the compression tights are hard to do solo as your legs will be very tender.
After 2 weeks I had significant bruising and swelling and I couldn't bend my knees so stairs were really hard. It was water but didn't make it any easier.
I only required Tylenol for the first few days and nothing else. But the pressure was really uncomfortable.
After a month things were better, and now almost 2 years later, I'm beyond happy.
I have actually booked knees up now!
The procedure is tough, but worth it. The recovery is slow, but necessary. The meds are needed, so set a timer. The $ cost is high, so plan for it. The results are incredible, so be ready for them ;)

Thanks for posting about your procedure, your results are awesome! Any tips or things that helped you during recovery? Did anything help with the swelling? (I'm 6 hours post-op lying in bed like a robot with my legs straight haha.)
Congrats on having your procedure and thanks for the kind words.

My personal recommendations would be:
1) setting an alarm for your meds (if you need them), getting behind the pain is not good.
2) keep drinking water! It is horrible to have to get up and pee, but keeping my body hydrated really felt good.
3) rest your legs whenever possible, unfortunately that means sitting/lying, but your body needs it.
4) get help to take off and put on your stockings. I had my hubby stand at the end of the bed and rapid pull them off.
5) when it feels ok, start touching your legs. Mine were hypersensitive so touching them helped heal all the micro-damage.
6) no matter how much you don't want to change your stockings, do it. Get up, shower, put your solution on the incisions, and then rest!
7) if your diet permits it, eat healthy carbs. We underestimate the impact this procedure has but it is full on surgery, so your body needs healthy long lasting fuel (this is not the time to count healthy carb calories).
8) Swelling will happen but is variable, mine was bad. Bad. I gained 12lbs of fluid and the pressure from tightened skin was intense. Just keep flushing your body and know when your body is ready to let go of that fluid it will. Also that the weight gain is NOT fat. You cannot gain 12 lbs in 2 weeks, it is fluid retention that is protecting your body.
9) I wore long shirts and short dresses because I didn't like anything touching my legs for about 2 weeks.
10) if you have plans other than prone recovery, cancel them, give yourself time to see how your body will react. I required a solid 2 weeks before I wouldn't cringe from the pressure, and 3 weeks until I could feel my knee, let alone see it.
11) take pictures! You know your body so will see subtle changes. The pictures are encouraging.

I have my top leg surgery coming up and I am terrified again! But I know it will be worth it. Please keep us posted on your recovery and results!
Thank you so much! I'll keep all of these in mind and will be updating my own post :)
Good luck with your top leg surgery!!
Hi,
Thank you for your review!

I can relate to your story. I have my date coming up in May. I'm from Canada. With the conversion rate this procedure is almost 20k. I know what it feels like to hide your legs and live with this. Would you say this amount is well worth it? Thanks again.
It was 100% worth it. I love my legs and can't wait to see what the top looks like (date soon!). You are correct, it is expensive, but if it is within your means without causing financial hardship, then I would recommend it.
Please keep in touch and let me know how May goes for you!
Hi, thank you for sharing and I have my surgery coming up. From your photo, I see a slight dent on your right calf, not sure if it's just the picture, but really want to ask about the scars and if any dents or bumps. Thanks!
Congrats on your upcoming surgery - it is a BIG decision.

I checked the photos, and can see what you are talking about about a dent. But I just looked, I do not have any indents or lumps, so it must have been the picture or how it has settled now.

I'm currently 4 months post my upper legs, so can provide scarring insight. My scars from my 2019 knees down surgery are beautifully healed. The scars around my ankle are very small 3-4cm but I can see a couple of them, as they are white. The scars from my recent surgery are fully healed but light purple in colour.
As for any dents or bumps, my lower legs have none that I notice or can feel. My upper legs go have some spots that have bumps, but those spots are also tender to push on, so I think it is swelling. My skin surface is smooth, it's just noticeable when I push my fingers down (like rubbing your thighs).
Keep me posted and feel free to ask any question!

I'll post an updated picture too :)
Your results are beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Have you had any lasting side effects like numbness that hasn't gone away?
