Hello, I was planning on getting rhinoplasty by Dr. Rival of Toronto , Canada who is arguably the best rhinoplasty surgeon in Canada. But earlier today I had a consultation with him.. it lasted about 20 minutes and was $300 not including taxes. He is sweet, but only repeated everything I already knew about what would happen/what to expect. The thing that bothered me considerably was the photoshopped after photos of my potential new nose. I'm not sure if its because my nose is so bulbous and ball like from the front, or maybe it's like this for all after pictures because the actual results wouldn't be like this. Take a look at what he sent me. Please let me know if this is normal, I'm completely new to this website and haven't ever had surgery before so don't know what to have expected from this before/after picture thing. The side profile one looks better after, but its cropped and with the rest of my face, it does not suit me at all. Sorry for the creepy blacked out eyes

Don't believe what you read on the Internet or what Rival claims, he's certainly not the best in Canada or even Toronto.
I can't comment on the before and afters and how realistic they are in terms of Rival performing your surgery since he never even did any before/afters with me. I can however say that it probably depends on your skin thickness and how you heal. I would say that the after images are a little too thin and fake looking, but if you like the look, by all means go for it!
I would really urge you to look at Dr. Oakley Smith if you indend on having surgery in Canada, from what I hear he's the ony decent guy in Canada. Otherwise, I would go to the states.
I made the mistake of having surgery with Rival 5 years ago (as well as a revision with him a year later) and he left my with a retracted nostril, poor weir excision, uneven nose overall and bossae. I also found out from my new revision doctor that my septum was severely deformed internally. I traveled to the US in attempt to get it fixed and although there's improvement, some of the damage is permanently done, thanks to Rival.
Rival is certainly sweet at first but he's not very caring afterwards. I'd be very wary, and consult with as many surgeons as possible. You don't want to go through multiple revisions like I did, especially for something as significant on your face as your nose.
I wish you the best of luck and I hope you get the results you want no matter which doctor you choose!

I would have to second the recommendation above. Please take the time to consult with Dr Oakley Smith. He is more expensive but this is your face. Trust me - this is coming from someone that didn't get the right person the first time and needed revision. Follow your gut...and I think judging by your post you already feel something is off.

Hey leemurleem,

I saw you messaged me but the site won’t allow me to open your messages and redirects me to another page that says “leemurleem does not accept messages”. I just wanted to let you know in case you thought I was ignoring you. If you’d like to chat, you’ll have to unblock that feature.

While I do understand your concern, I feel obligated to write something. Dr Rival has performed one of the hardest kinds of rhinoplasty for me back in May, and I must say I am very satisfied. My crooked nose is gone! You do have to keep a few things in mind though. First of all, Dr RIval is a doctor, not an IT and video expert. Please keep your expectations regarding the video imaging reasonable. Much more is needed to achieve what you are looking for (a perfect video image of yourself in the future). Secondly, each patient is different. I did quite a bit of reading after my surgery, because it was impossible to read/know everything before it. You can only pray that your nose reacts in a way you would like it to react (to all the shock and stress of the surgery). Eat well and pay attention to your post-op care. Third, Dr Rival is quite busy and everyone in the hospital had nothing but good words about him. I went with my gut, and I am glad I did. Although Dr Rival never articulated the details of my long surgery and what he did, I managed to figure it out. This doctor gave it his all, and that is the feeling I wish for you as well.

Please, compare the prices Oakley/Rival and compare the before and after photos they have on their websites. I just went to Oakley's website, and I am not seeing too many complicated cases, and the ones that were complicated weren't looking perfect or 100% afterwards. Not trying to say Oakley's work is bad, because it is also very impressive, but it's not exactly like he had to fix an Elephant Man's nose.

Have in mind that I am in my fifth month of healing. I still have good days and bad days. I still have questions for Dr Rival who I will see again in January. This is by no means over for me. I am giving it 12 months, as I still have a lot of swelling. As I said, I read a lot post-op, and I was surprised how many disaster stories there are online. Much of them have to do with patient's dysmorphic body disorder, and then some have to do with surgeon's skills, and then of course some have to do with the way your body will react to surgery.

Look at all these famous Hollywood stars. Look how many of them have horible and ugly noses. It's not like they don't have money (for a revision). They can pay multiple surgeons to operate on their nose, but there is only so much their body and their genes can do to achieve this. Yes, look at Hollywood stars - and think about it. Think about it hard.

By all means, go and see Dr Oakley. Your heart may sit with what he has to offer a little bit better. Everyone needs to go with their instinct. However, as one happy patient of Dr Rival, I am just saying that you won't make a mistake if you go with either of them.

Good luck!

I agree with aurorabor .. dr rival seems to be a yes man and says he can do what you want. When the surgery is over it's impossible to contact him, you would have to book an appointment that only lasts 5m and he will never explain to you what he did to your nose. Every follow up appointment he would promise to fix the issue but just give it time. Two years later he gets very annoyed and says he has a meeting to goto. I can't even get operative notes from the office for a revision! But if ur ok with slightly better then ur original nose then he's ok for $8000. But you will notice imperfections like thinner skin and bump showing more feel the crack in the bridge of the nose and still crooked. My emt says my nose is still deviated. One side looks collapsed too. His morph pictures are off by 100 percent my nose looks nothing like what he envisioned for me.

How do we see your pictures to see the nose job?

Sorry I meant the pre-op pictures.
