WORTH IT
Since English is my second language, I was not too keen on writing this review. However, I owned it to you ladies who share your experiences and to Dr. Born whom gave me back my confidence and restore my hope in the plastic surgeries industry.
I am not new to plastic surgeries; two nose surgeries, a tummy tuck to correct my separated abdominal muscles after the birth of my second child and five breast surgeries from 1989 till now.
Alright, let me tell you about the story of my boobies.
I am 52 years old with a slim and athletic body (5’7,115 pounds). Not sure if you ever watched some of the 80`s movies, in those days it was all about big hair and big boobs, big butts were not in fashion then. I had the big hair but not the big boobs. I was in my early 20`s and desperate to look like the women in magazines and movies. I was still in College, worked three part-time jobs and took a loan to afford the breasts of my dreams. I was then living in Quebec city and heard about this fantastic surgeon in Montreal who inserted the breast implants through the armpit with minimal scars. I have to say, for those days she was pretty much ahead of her time. I had 250cc, and 280cc placed under the muscle, the surgery last 2 hours and cost me $2000. I went alone, took a bus back from Montreal to Quebec city, it was the worse ride of my life! The recovery was long and painful, the result was pretty good though and last more than 15 years. What I did not know is that a year after my surgery there was a scare regarding silicone breast implants which caused them to be removed from the market in both Canada and the United States. From 1992 to 2000, Health Canada did not allow implantation of silicone breast implants. My implants were the old liquid silicone implants.
I had capsular contracture on my left breast around 2007. Since I was leaving in Toronto, I search for a surgeon in the city. In 2008, Dr. Peters removed both implants which were ruptured and replaced them with the new Health Canada accreditated silicone implants. Since the first implants were submuscular, Dr. Peter informed me that it was necessary to have the replacements placed above the muscles. Six months later I had to have a revision on my left breast because of breast implant rippling( I had very little overlying body fat). The implants lasted about eight years.
In April 2017, Dr. Weinberg removed the implants du to again capsular contracture. OHIP covered the cost of removal; It was done in the hospital. I was very relieved that after 30 years or so I was finally free of problems associated with implants. The recovery from this surgery was pretty rough; I had to endure the drains for ten days, I could not sleep properly in fear of lying on them. I also had to take a lot of pain medication which made me drowsy and constipated. I took two weeks off work and unable to go back to the gym for two months then after. I thought that the slow recovery was due to my aging body, I learned later that it has nothing to do with your age as long as you are healthy but mostly due to the surgeon technics, skills, and care.
Call me vain if you wish, but as you can see in the pictures I was left with horrible looking breast; they were saggy, long, different sizes and the right breast had a significant indentation. I had to do something; I knew that I did not want implants again. I contacted four very well-known surgeons in Toronto. One refused to do the surgery, and he told me that I had already had too many surgeries. One was unsure; he took many pictures and told me that he would have to review my case with his associates, which made me think that he was not too capable. One said to me that a lift without an implant would give horrible results. I also should mention that I discussed a fat transfer with them, as well as through Skype with an American doctor; I am too slim for this procedure. I was so so so devastated.
Thankfully someone recommended Dr. Born. Right away I knew that my breasts would have a new chance in this life! Dr. Born was honest, attentive, intelligent, confident, and never pressured me to get implants. He was the only one who knew what to do with the indentation on my left breast. I immediately book an appointment for surgery on February 02 2018. Andrea, the office manager, is super helpful and approachable. She recommended without pushing for naturopathic supplements for pre and post-op. Since the recovery from my last surgery was so lamentable, I thought I would give it a try. The night before the surgery I was little nervous, it never goes away does not matter how many surgeries you have had.
OMG, what an entirely different experience than my prior surgeries! As soon as I arrived at TMB, the nurses took excellent care of me. They put me in one of the facility bed; they made sure I was warm and comfortable, they allow me to play with my cell phone, and best of all I was given a cocktail of pills which sent me to heaven. The anesthesiologist came to introduce himself and ask few medicals questions. He is such a cutie, I could be put asleep anytime in his hands…lol. A few minutes later, Dr. Born arrived and drew lines on my breast. At this point, I was pretty happily high and not scared of nothing. The nurses brought me to the operating room which was impressive, cool music was playing, and then I counted down; 10,9,8…
The surgery took about one and half hour; they let me sleep three more hours after that. My husband was there when I woke up, by then the night shift nurses started. They informed me that the surgery went well and made sure I felt no pain. I did not want to leave the place if it were not for my husband who wants to take me home I would have accepted the staff offers and stay the overnight! Dr. Born call later in the evening to check on me.
Unlike the past surgery, I had no drains. I slept like a baby on the first night. The morning after the surgery I woke up feeling some pain, I took one Percocet and one more in the evening when it was the last time. The operation was on a Friday, and by Sunday I was in excellent conditions. I spent the entire day shopping with my daughter. I could not believe how well I felt, however, I was scared of looking at my new breast for fear of disappointment. I saw Dr. Born the following Tuesday, while he was removing the bandages I closed my eyes and then open them to look at my new perfect little breast. I immediately fell in love with them..lol. They are better than I ever would have dreamed considering how they looked before the surgery.
Yesterday I had my one-month appointment with Dr. Born, and everything looks fine. The inflammation is gone, and according to the Doctor, the breasts will look better and better. Yolanda, the surgical nurse, informed me to keep on putting tape on the incisions for three months so they can heal better. It is not a big deal; I change the tape after I shower.
That is it, for now, ladies, I promise to keep you posted on the development of my boobs story.
