How it works
- Our highly-trained Review Moderation team evaluates all reviews before they're published to ensure they're written by people like you and not a member of a doctor's office.
- This multi-step process takes up to 24 hours from review submission to publication.
- Doctors can't pay to have reviews removed or hidden.
- Reviews are only removed at the reviewer's request or if they violate our Terms of Service.

Surgery day
My surgery was scheduled for 8a.m. Had to get to the surgical centre at 7:15a.m. Got there at 6. They gave me a gown and slippers and robe to change into, took my blood pressure and confirmed my information, allergies, etc. Waited in a waiting room until 8.
Everything was very to the point. I was brought into the surgical room, dr. Fialkov put the markings on my face, asked me if I had any questions, and then I was told to lye on the surgical bed and they put the iv in me then the oxygen mask. The surgery was at Elements surgical centre and the anesthesiologists I believe they were, weren't very personable and didn't put me at ease much. They barely let me know what they were doing and when putting the oxygen mask on me they said it was to relax me. I asked if it was what was putting me to sleep and the reply was "well you'll sleep eventually...". That's the last I remember before surgery.
The surgery was supposed to take an hour and a half to two hours and one hour in recovery afterwards. My surgery started around 8 but I have no clue when I got out because they didn't even call my mom to let her know I was out of surgery. I couldn't stay awake, I remember periodically waking up for a few seconds but that's it. Based on their time frame I thought I would be leaving around 11a.m. I left at 5p.m.
I had a couple complications with my surgery. First being that when they created the incision for the sliding genioplasty (inside your mouth in front of your bottom teeth), my thin gums just shredded. Dr. Fialkov had to stitch around my teeth to keep everything in place. Second being the tube down my throat cut my throat all up. For this reason my throat was very sore and bleeding and I swallowed a lot of blood. Had issues with my breathing so they had me use a puffer and also took it home with me.
Finally at 5p.m. I was doing okay with my breathing and I was awake enough to manoeuvre myself around a little bit. My mom helped get me dressed and they wheeled me downstairs to a garage where your ride picks you up. From there I went to stay with my mom.
I was told no smoothies even, and of course no food. My incisions were too fragile and so I could have water and juice until I saw dr. Fialkov next. We scheduled an appointment with him at sunnybrooke hospital on the Wednesday (surgery was on the Monday).
P.s. The female nurse who took care of me was really nice and was very good with me. She made up for the lack of respect I felt with the anesthesiologists.
