1-day post op but feeling like a week!
Just over 30-hours after my surgery and the swelling has actually gotten a lot better which surprised me. I've been using the arnica cream and capsules 3-4 times a day and I think it's really helping. I took the compression garment off for about 40 minutes to run down the street for some groceries (which my doc said was fine) and only put a scarf on to cover up the piece of surgical tape.
The clinic called today to ask how things were going and recommended a small amount of nail polish remover on a cotton swab to remove the permanent marker under my chin leftover from the surgery which seems to have mostly done the trick (just of course not near the incision area itself!).
I get the suture out in 4 days and if all continues to go well I feel like after that there won't be anything to hide. Time will tell!
So far, so very very good!

I've been self conscious of my double chin as long...
I've been self conscious of my double chin as long as I can remember. It's hereditary, but I never considered surgery when I was younger because I figured if I lost weight it would vanish. After losing 25 pounds I realized if I ever wanted to get rid of it I'd have to go the surgical route. I desperately just wanted a chin that matches by body. I'm slim, 5'8 and 120 pounds, but photos of my face taken at an unflattering angle added at least 20-30 pounds to my appearance.
After a few years of contemplation I finally decided now was the time. My surgery was yesterday and so far I can see a huge improvement. While I expect swelling to last some time and to not actually see full results until after a few months, I already feel very good about my decision to go through with the surgery. When I came home, took my compression garment off and looked in the mirror for the first time, I was so relieved to finally see a chin that much more closely reflects the image of myself that I picture after years of working to change my lifestyle and drop the weight.
The surgery was a breeze. I was in and out of the clinic in 2 hours, and most of that was waiting/filling out forms etc. I had the surgery done under local anaesthesia and sedation, and would recommend this route to anyone. I felt calm and happy the whole time and a half hour after they finished I was ready to leave with most if not all the sedation having already worn off. The procedure didn't take longer than 20 minutes and when I got home I started baking! As if I hadn't had surgery at all.
I went with Dr. Lawrence Tong here in Toronto after a lot of research and comparing different surgeons. I feel that he was the perfect mix of great reviews, professionalism and fair pricing. The clinic was always quick to respond to my emails, Dr. Tong was extremely friendly and professional and so far I feel very content in my decision to go with this practice. More updates to come after my follow-up appointment next week.
Below are pictures taken within a couple hours of surgery. It's now a day later and swelling/bruising has remained more or less the same. Lots of swelling where the garment ends in particular. I'm applying arnica cream (to all areas except the incision) and taking antibiotics, but no pain killers as I haven't felt them necessary. The area is very tender to the touch and so the garment I have to wear is definitely aggravating, but a small price to pay in the long run. It took me a while to fall asleep last night with it on and I didn't sleep with my head as elevated as they recommend, but otherwise all has been very easy.
