I had decided to treat myself to permanent lip...

I had decided to treat myself to permanent lip fillers for my birthday. The doctor also injected the corner of my lips. My lips began to swell. The doctor told me that it was normal. 3 days later, they were so sore, swallen and bloody, that duck lips look small in comparison, at this stage the doctor told me to go immediately to hospital. All the Aquamid had leaked out, my lips were huge and bleeding. I stayed in hospital for a whole week. Huge bloody lips had turned into huge scabs on my lips, and above my lips. When the scabs were gone, I was left with deep scars on both sides of my upper lips and one side of my lower lip, and on both corners of my lips. One side of my lips was left with a huge raised line which ran all the way down my lip, this resulted in a one hour surgery. The doctor said it was so hard, it was as if he was removing concrete. I was also left with scars and discolourisation on my lips and a lot of granuloma. Now my lips are being treated with laser and needling, this will cost me $3,000 and 6 months of treatments. I will then need to tattoo my lips to cover up the discolourisation, another $1,500, and who knows if the needling will remove the granuloma. I may need to get surgery for that. Statistics say that one in 4.5 cases of Aquamid treatment end up in a disaster. So if you are brave enough or vain enough, go ahead and play Russian roulette with your face.

I forgot to mention, a year later and my lips still feel numb, all my nerve endings have been killed off too!

I am so sorry to read your story. I came across it as wanting to have the Aquamid in my lips removed as well. I had them done in December 2013 and have never been happy with it. Sore to smile. Uncomfortable. I am constantly depressed over it. I am based in Adelaide and just don't know where to begin to start the removal procedure. Beginning to think I might need to come to Melbourne to have it done. I approached the Doctor that originally did the procedure and he brushed it off. Even today saying its all fine and there aren't any problems. Though my lips are lumpy and you can see the white bumps under the skin. Not fine at all and I have lost my smile completely. I am thinking after seeing your post I should maybe contact your doctor and see if he could recommend anyone in Adelaide who could undertake the procedure. I sincerely hope your situation is improving and you are coping with this to some extent. I too have a raised line running across top of my lip to my nose area. My husband keeps pointing it out referring to 'he told me not to have my lips one!'. Its a nightmare and you know it well.

Hi,
yes, I still have the white lumps and bumps and lots of scars for which I get laser treatment ever month. The Aquamid that was injected into my lips leaked out instantly from all the open wounds which I had whilst I was in hospital for a week ( and they couldnt help me at the hospital either). My lips are still as numb as ever. I can barely feel them. I saw a top plastic surgeon who suggested to cut out my lips completely and reconstruct new ones ( thats way too drastic). My doctors name is David Powell, I am not sure if he can help you. My suggestion would be to get liposuction done and deposit your own fat into your lips to cover up the bumps, and then to get permanent lip tattoo done. These are my next steps, once I m done with the laser therapy. I really feel for you. I wish you all the very best.

Oh goodness yes that would have been way too drastic. You've given me some food for thought. Thank you. When did you have your lips first injected with the Aquamid? How long has your battle been?

a year and a half ago, and still battling.....I think the laser treatment will continue throughout this year too. They initially told me that I will need 6 laser treatments, and I already had 4. The scars are too deep and we are no where near the end as far as getting rid of the scars is concerned. Each laser treatment is $250. I'd say that I wil need 12 laser treatments, rather then the initial 6 that were quoted. The doctor at the laser clinic told me that he sees scarred faces after aquamid ALL the time, but sadly mine was the most severe that he has ever seen.

I originally had mine done in 2010 I think it was. Perfect. Absolutely no problem. Then had them topped up in 2013. That is when he (the doctor) should have said no. He should have known better. I immediately lost my smile. I have a clown smile now. Apart from the lumps and issues - where is my smile gone? He changed my face completely and on confronting him it was all swept under the carpet. Even when I go back to him about the lumps and inflammation he brushes it all aside giving me stupid reasoning. This has affected me so much mentally. I can only imagine what its done to you.

Dear MarenC,
You may wish to seek legal help to get compensation from your doctor. This money you could use for fixing the problem. I wont sue my doctor because he is doing everything to make me feel better, including free botox and fillers every 6-12 months, depending on my needs. He stopped using aquamid all together. Tomorrow I am going to see him for minor surgery to remove further lumps and to correct the scars, to be followed by laser ( which I pay for myself), in a couple of weeks. I wish for you to be strong and to fight for your rights. Most doctors are good at making excuses, unfortunately yours sounds like one of them.

All the best with your doctors visit today. Would you by any chance be able to ask him who he'd recommend or suggest I go and see in Adelaide please? I have done research and being a small city - no doctor stands out. Even if I just go to someone else with know how for a consultation. Yes my doctor is excellent at being evasive and I don't believe I am the first person with this issue coming out of his rooms.

Dear MarenC,
My operation went well. My scars are a lot less visible now, so thats good news, however, my doctor couldnt find any good doctor in Adelaide, he said that your best bet is to ask your GP. Have a good day, Miriam

Hello holistic, is there a way I can contact you? I too am in a horrible predicament myself, it would really help to speak to someone who has or is, going through these obsticles, I live in Melbourne but have no idea where or who to see for removal, would love to ask questions esp since you have gone through some procedure, so many stories out there about removal is scaring me to go further :(
Sent a PM not sure if its gone through though.

Hi There, I also have major issues with aquamid in my lips. I have too had some surgically removed but not everything, and I think the removal of a large lump made it worse. I would be so grateful if you could give me an update as to the treatment you had with laser, and by whom? I am considering this as my next option. Hope it all was a success.

Hello Guys, you need to know how to break down biofilm, this is probably the best solution if you can avoid surgery at this stage, when the immune system is compromised, it can not break down biofilm, these are pathogens that colonise around tissues and organs, releasing toxins into bloodstream, basically causing havoc throughout your entire body, you may even feel more sensitive in certain areas such as where there is foreign objects in your body, in this case (Aquamid) etc... The answer to this is reversing the damages in your body first, attempt if you can surgery later, once your immune system is strong again, if you go in and start cutting away where the lumps are, chances are, your trying to cut out biofilm, they will only multiply and ruin more tissue as your keep cutting them out. It takes time to break down biofilm, but with the right help, its very simple, takes dedication to change your lifestyle, eating habits etc.... chances are, if your immune system has crashed, your priority should be to restore it, find a good naturapath that can help you and teach you to heal your gut, your gut is your second brain, when the gut lining starts to wear away, then your immune system will crash causing all sorts of parasistic, cross infection, viruses, bacteria (you name it) to manifest. Improve your diet, filter your water, start learning how to rebuild your gut health, have a good naturopath guide you with the right protocol and supplements that can help break down biofilm, change to grass fed or organic meats, ditch pasturised dairy, its only poison for your gut, acts like glue for your insides when they kill off the good bacteria, start learning how to include foods that help your good bacteria floorish.... My soreness and throbbing has now dissapeared just by changing my lifestyle and educating myself on how to heal my body naturally, by the time my immune system is fixed, i can possibly look into laser or minor surgery to remove this filler, till then, it aint worth it, all you will be doing is chopping into the biofilms that is protecting the bad bacteria, and they will multiply, look after your body first, then surgery later. I promise this is a better and wise solution, if anyone needs some guidance ill see how i can help. God bless you all, hang in there, its not as impossible as it seems, you will get through it.
